[IMG] Can I use it as a substitute for spells like True Seeing or Detect Invisibility if I have like 100-120 points in it?

Kind of; I've only managed to get it to work a few times. I don't know exactly how it works but I do know it's not a passive skill--the thief needs to be actively detecting traps for the detect illusion ability to work.

I don't know how it interacts with, say, non-detection or Spell Immunity: Divination.

    I found it extremely useful.

It just seemed like a waste of spell slots for True sight/whatever. So i had Jan to detect invisibility... he had like 130 points in iirc. And he succeded most times.

Thief's Detect Illusion ignores SI: Divination. Very good ability to have when fighting liches from Tactics mod.
The only other method of dispelling SI: Divination is with Chain Contingency which can target even invisible enemies. :D

Well, if it's anything like the mage spell, Detect Illusion works against Reflected Image, Invisibility, Mirror Image, and Non-detection. True Sight works against these, plus Improved Invisibility, Shadow Door, Mislead, Project Image, and Simulacrum.

To be honest, I've never paid any attention to this thief ability. But it sounds like it could actually be pretty useful. Thanks for posting the question, Faraaz! :thumb:

If you have Jan in your party, he'll actually start with high points on it.

    *minor spoiler*

I also think it may have plot-changing attributes - if you have Jan on your party, for example, on your quest to find the Rakshasa Ihtafeer in Druid Grove he'll remark about seeing the female potion-merchant having a tiger's head.

    Keldorn says something similar.

The dialog files don't check your skill in something, but they do check for the specific NPC to see that line. If Jan had no points in DI, he'd still say that.

So just so I understand, for the thief's ability to detect illusion, you have to be actively checking for traps? Or the other, thief disarm / pick pocket?

You must have trap detection active for detect illusions to work.
