Why are all four pure thieves (Imoen, Safana, Alora, Skie) all women (fine, girls)? Don't you find that odd? Is it because of the sexist stereotype that women are more dexterous and graceful than men? Is there a special reason for this? They could have at least made one of them a man. Dungeons and Dragons (noooot the movie) seems to categorize thieves as women whenever I read a D&D book.

This is true for the entire BG series, maybe for all Bioware RPG games. Think about it. BGII had Yoshimo, but he was a bounty hunter.

But then practically all of the thieves at the thieves' guild are male, except for that one that you can buy things from.

Coran is a Fighter/Thief. In BG2 Yoshimo and Jan Jansen, so I don't think it's totally female biased. You could say the same thing if it were opposite...

Pure thief? Does it really matter? They're all thieves. In BG2 Yoshimo is the ONLY pure thief so it's obviously not for all Bioware games.

The halfling who comes together with Xzar is a fighter-thief, isn't he?

The only thief (rogue) in Neverwinter Nights was a male halfling.

Well the only two pure clerics are girls too.
    And the Druids?
Both are girls too if you count Jaheira as a Fighter/Druid.
That's what happens when you make all (but one evil girl) the Fighters/Paladins/Rangers men.
Oh yeah...Bards are only men too. Huh? Girls have better singing voices don't they?

At least the Mages, the most important class *ahem*, are well gender balanced. Although none of the "good alignment" mages are men. Unless I count myself. ;)

well just make a pure class Male thief, anyway Male can have nice voice too.... beside Shar-teel their isn't so many girl Fighter, maybe BIOWARE juts though, that since so many "fighter" type class are men they will let the "other" class be women... IMHO.. ;) ;)

Some of the characters in Baldur's Gate are based on characters used in PnP games by the developers at BioWare. That could explain parts of it...
