[IMG] Ok, so I'm curious, what are some things that you love about where you live? I'm sure where you live there are probably a lot more things that you like about it rather than hate about it...otherwise you probably wouldn't be living there.

As for me, there *are* a few good things about living here...
    • I am surrounded on the east and west sides by mountain ranges, one of which has several ski resorts.
    • There is a relatively low crime rate here.
    • We do get a taste of all 4 seasons, which is good...I guess
    • During the summer, it can get up to 100+ degrees with a humidity of 30-40%, which makes a good swim feel a lot better! :thumb:
    • A large amount of good looking LDS girls running about with their biological clock ringing like mad.
That's about it for the good...time for the bad:
    • The stupid F***ing drivers here.
    • The fact that we have two large lakes, one to the north, and one to the south that no one wants to go in. (The Great Salt Lake stinks like death, and Utah Lake is probably still contaminated from the old steel mill.)
    • The "inversion layer"...during the winter, the cold air traps a layer of warm air underneath it, and the smog build up inside it...the entire Salt Lake Valley has so much smog, that people with asthma and other breathing conditions are warned to stay indoors.
    • The "holier than thou" Mormons. LDS folk in general can be pretty cool, but here in Utah, they all have a snooty "I'm a better Mormon than you because I live near SLC!" attitude.
    • The stupid liquor laws. :bang:
So, what are some things that you love and hate about where you live? :rolling:

    Love about Newfoundland:

    -hubby
-insects are in the minority :alien:
    -mild summers
    -ducks
-my understanding of seals and cod are phenomenal

    Hate about Newfoundland:
-Bay(wo)men (think of a Geordie and a Liverpudlian having an accent baby :whoa: I can't understand what they say at all.)

-Mother-in-law (oh she who is the center of the universe...NOT!)
-my daughter and family is not here
-a mile (1.6 km) to walk *anywhere* useful

I racking my brains to think of what LDS could possibly stand for, but I'm still stumped. Little Dark Skirts? Let Down Slowly? Long, Dark, Sexy?

Anyway, things I love about where I live are:
    - 5 minutes walk from the beach
    - I've never ever seen anybody with a gun
    - the climate is nice and mild - no ice in the winter and no heatwaves in the summer
    - no wars going on for thousands of miles in any direction
    - nuclear free
    - not much pollution
    - our biggest sports stars are down to earth and accessible (you have a reasonable chance of meeting them in the pub)
    - I live near a main bus route so I don't have to drive to work
    - there has only ever been one terrorist action in this whole country and that was one boat that was blown up 20 years ago
    - there are no poisonous snakes or spiders or pretty much any wild animal that could kill or eat you.

Believe me, if I thought I could get work down there, I'd be there...

You get those everywhere. There's always someone in the ward that gets that kind of attitude...

    My list?

    Like?

Room to roam when I get so friggin' Hyper I can't stand it.

    Hate?

Too far from anything fun (movie theatres, other gamers, game stores)
Too few jobs I can actually get
45 minute drive to Church (And Kitrax, you don't want to know how far from the Temple. It made some people's eyes bug out when I went to Utah...)
1 hour walk to a variety store

    As for the country, Finland.

    Likes:
    Educational system is good.
    Health Care is good.
No terrorist acts at all, althought IIRC there was that one point when they tried to smuggle weapons trough country. But still, we haven't suffered from any acts.
All in all, there's plenty of things I like about this country, althought some could be a lot different.

    Dislikes:
Those people who think that Finland is the grandest and best country there is. Truth be told, this little country is pretty much nothing.
The general "Swedes are faqs and Russians are drunks!" attitude. Really, where do these thoughts come from? As if we would be better than them...

As for the place I live:

    Likes:
    Silent, not much happening.
10 minutes away from city, just about perfect.
    Really little pollution.
    Friendly neighbours and land lord.
    Much space outside.
There's a small beach about 5 minutes walk away from here.

    Dislikes:
The lake, by which the beach is located, is often infested by blue-green algae during summer. Good thing I'm at summer cottage for some time each summer, where swimming is possible.
Live next to horse stables, sometimes smell can be bad, but I've gotten used to it.

HB, LDS = Later Day Saints. Surprised Gnarff didn't mention it.

    So Britain:

    Likes:
    Countryside
Historical Architecture (I'm a sucker for old buildings)
Large number of Conservationalist groups, English Heritage, National Trust, RSPB, RHS, etc
    British ecentricities in general
Public reaction in times of need
    Lack of poisonous/biting things
Quality of television broadcasting (compared to what I've seen abroad anyway)
British comedy and sense of humour
Beer that actually tastes of something

    Dislikes:
The quantity of people in this tiny isle
Amount of litter caused by in the main...
    The local Teenagers
Government bullheadedness - they really don't listen to what the public want, be it the war in Iraq, or the building of 100's of 1000's of new homes in area's without any facilities to cope with the added population.
    Prices/costs (inc taxes)
    British reputation abroad
Inability of our sports teams to ever capitalise on winning.
Nanny state, helped by the fact that...
Society appears to be moving so people won't take responsibilities for their own actions - Lets sue instead.

    Dislikes:
    * No local employment worth having - I have to commute into the city for a good job
    * Little LOCAL public transit or bike-friendly roads - getting ANYWHERE to do ANYTHING requires a drive (but I can commute by train, thank God)
    * Philadelphia accents
    * High prices

    I like:

    - A great public transport system. Okay, the prices are rising high, but you don't need a car around here.

    - About 5 minutes to walk to the nearest forest.

    - Me and my friends usually can't agree on what we want to do on saturday night. ;) Despite living on the edge of the city.

    - The people of Berlin. We do seem to be a grumpy, ever complaining a lot. But most are friendly underneath, and our humor is rather dry. Just don't back of in fear if we seem to be pissed. ;)

    I dislike:

    - My neighbors: They are loud and think they have the right to be.

    - Drivers. Those from Berlin are no problem. It's said, that if you learned to drive a car in Berlin you can drive everywhere. But we got a lot of incoming form the hinterland. Some even go ballistic.

    - Neonazis: Lucky for me, I live in the west of the city, and most of them in the east. But they are still around and very annoying.

-all the girls of Scandinavian descent, all my family's enthocentricism has rubbed off on me, nothing's better looking then a blonde haired, blue eyed girl

-high level of affluence (though it's decreasing)

    -Minnesota Nice

-The winter, I love the cold, ice and snow, even if it makes my nose, hands and lips bleed like hell. Nothing's better then an icy environment... save an icy girl  .

    -Comsopolitan... for the Midwest

    Dislike

-Influx of Americans from else were.

-Decline of Minnesota nice caused by non-native Minnesotains

-Decline of our Education system, correlating with an increase of conservative non-natives in the state

    -Decline of affluence

-Erosion of 19th century Norwegian culture caused by culturally nonhomogenous non-native Minnesotains.

-Decline of Ultra Progressive Social agenda (we claim the honor of having the first Socialist Governor elected in the U.S.).

... I can't think of anything else I can blame "non-natives" at the moment... I can't for the life of me figure out why southerners move up here... our economy been in the crapper ever since good old Mr Moderate Arnie Carlson left office as the Governor.

    Things I like about Bangalore...

    *Food...

*Gamers abound EVERYWHERE!! :) There's a game of Counterstrike, Warcraft or Tekken to be had any time of the day, almost any place in Bangalore!!

*Weather...Bangalore's probably the best city to live in weatherwise, in India...everywhere else is either too hot, or too cold! :p

Err...That's about it. Not much else praiseworthy about it...now for the bad!!

    *People...rude, annoying and completely mental.

*Traffic...anyone who's been to India knows that the traffic systems are apalling here, but INDIANS who haven't been to Bangalore recently will be shocked. Its HORRIBLE!

*Roads...they're so bad, my grandad's got a weak back, so he prefers to walk rather than travel by car over short distances...

*Crowded...because of all those outsourced companies setting up shop here, everythings become a lot more crowded than it used to be say...4-5 years ago. Now...if you wanted to go to the movies or a restaurant, you have to book days in advance! :(

*Expensive...relatively speaking (India-wise), Bangalore's one of the most expensive cities in India to live in...after Shrikant's hometown of course! ( )

*Stupid government - By "government" here, I mean the mayor, the metropolitan department, the city traffic police department, and all other government agencies such as the RTA, public transport authorities etc. There's way too much corruption, lack of infrastructure and crazy laws. :flaming:

    - Where I live, most important things are close. The church is just on the other side of the street. Little shops are very close, a bigger grocery shop and some others are 2-3 minutes away, as is the final bus stop.

    - In my city, I don't have to drive. This is largely because I know what's where and how to get there fast by now, but still.

    - Alcohol isn't really expensive

    - Whatever Catholics believe, they don't try convincing you it's what the Church believes

    - We don't have some of the legal nonsense from overseas (no offence :p ), such as private companies being allowed to search your computer for illegal files

    - The police really detains you for no more than 48 hours without charges. And it can't be for any reason

    - The administrative branch of the judiciary seems to be working fine. You have a more or less effective way of opposing ****ty decisions. If you file a complaint and it goes all the way up to the officer's respective minister, you can sue. And it does work.

    - Food is good. As in real food. Fast food is the same everywhere.

    - There are parts of this country where people are still honest, friendly, polite and moral

    - Education is worsening but still good

    -

    - The RIAA et consortes will come here, anyway, and M$ is already setting up something big

    - We are being subsumed by the corporate world and politicians are joining ranks with greedy bloodsuckers

    - Tax breaks and exemptions are for the rich. Increases and new taxes and all sorts of fees are for the poor. See above. Also, taxes are way too complicated even for a normal lawyer. You need a specialist tax lawyer or accountant to deal with it. And tax offices all over the country don't exactly interpret the law the same way.

    - There's a lot of corruption and various forms of improper ties between politics and business... and no one to jail for it. See above.

    - Some judges are morons who don't believe violent offenders need to be detained for trial... and some believe putting a businessman behind bars for 2-3 years a tax trial lasts is okay

    - When you listen to John Paul II and then the local bishops, you start to wonder...

    - I don't like it when bishops remove kneeling for Holy Communion but leave alone kneeling before themselves, either

    - Public healthcare is dying despite more and more money being taken from citizens in form of tax or compulsory insurance. Even if you don't actually use public healthcare.

    - There's little respect for public property. Common citizens consider it no-one's. Politicians and their friends in business consider it their own.

    - Some stuff is horrendously expensive just because some stupid laws make room for such price pumping. Computer parts. Petrol. VAT and other taxes.

    - Laws change every day and often new ones need to be changed a couple of times already before they come into effect. "The rational lawmaker" (a semi-philosophical term in law doctrine) is the favourite joke among lawyers. It's always good for a cheap laugh...

    - Governments are scary. Especially ministers responsible for finances, treasury and infrastructure. Some have been mental cases. You don't want to hear about MPs, you really don't.

Actually, it's not permissive at all. Okay we don't stone people for sex out of wedlock, but we definitley discourage it. The women are good looking for the most part though...

It just so happens that Utah is a major center for Mormons (LDS), so I'm guessing that Mormon women outnumber non-Mormon women by a significant amount...

    - Very pretty city. Lovely to walk around, and stunningly beautiful when it snows.
    - Quite calm most of the time.
    - Very variable weather, so if it starts raining, you know it won't for very long.
    - Most people are very nice and open

    Dislikes (not hate):
    - Too cold for what I am used to.
    - Pollution in the air (not as bad as other big cities though)
    - Some people are not so nice, especially on a Saturday night (around now to be specific)
    - Neds
