How about that, shralph ... no insult intended, but:
Go to your library and search for terrorism and you'll most certainly find that the terrorist is a beeing home in the middle east and in europe. We here have terrorist problems for about 35 years now, most of them solved more or less.
Actually terrorism was a european invetion (anarchists, sarajevo, bakunin, russia, revolution - dark days).

Anyway, iirc there just have been the recent attacks and the oklahoma city bombing as notable terrorist strikes in the US.
Don't get me wrong, but terrorism has always been a global problem.
Ever considered, that you just notice it now, that it comes to the US?

Oh, I'm fully aware that terrorism is nothing new. Your statement that I'm just now noticing it is simply false.

I posted the link in response to those who were trying to take a "let America fight its own battles" attitude in the hopes that their country would stay out of it.

I'm curious about the relevance of your statement that terrorism is a European invention. Even if it is ... so what?

And your terrorism problems are so far from being mostly solved that your statement to the contrary is laughable. IRA, Chechnya, the Basques, just to name a few.

[IMG] Hmmm... "Let America fight..."? So Brazil, Mexico and Canada are fighting too? Bad news indeed, I thought only the USoA would have been targeted in America.

The fight is not between nations, it's between cultures and political interests. Europe and USA has a lot of same interests, so America "isn't alone". But it's obvious Shralp...

Hey Shralp i am not sure if i quite understand what you say however if i may be so bold as to just point out something that i think you may have not realised.
You say that european terrorist attacks and the prevention of them is laughable but you being american should know all too well the sensitive situation surrounding the IRA problems.
I would say that the American idea to just get revenge as quckly as possible is one way of solving the problem but can certainly not be described as civilised. But then the attacksn on wtc were not civilised either.
You can say that european anti terrorism is laughable but i tell you that it is an entirely different story.

BTW did anyone hear about what happened in switzerland today?

PS Shralp if this is not the point you were trying to make then just tell me and i will delete ok?:) :hippy:

    Thanks.

No, that wasn't the point I was trying to make. I was saying that the claim that European terrorism is a mostly fixed problem is laughable (because obviously there're still plenty of terrorism problems over there).

And I think we've proven that our goal is not to get revenge as soon as possible, at least not without regard to consequences. If that were true, Afghanistan would already be glowing at night.

Yeah but i have a bad feeling about this. i know the taliban have declared a jihad but that still does not explain in my mind why they will not hand osama over or at least get him out of their country. I know they can't find him and then they found him and then they lost him and then they would nopt hand him over.
But sureley they know they are to be slaughtered?!
Why would they without hesitation announce jihad against the rest of the world if they knnew they would all be dead in a few days?
That is what bothers me. Iff you ask me i think they have something rather nasty up their sleeve.......

    1) The article you posted a link to was about attacks against *American* interests in Europe. An embassy and an Army base. So while I'm not arguing your point, this wasn't the best example of it.

    2) I am getting a little tired of this whole "It's just America" thing. We are ALL, not just Americans, about to lose loved ones in the coming fight. A little respect for the rest of us who are wading into this fray is the least we can ask.
