[IMG] I guess being a "cold dead fish" doesn't give me a vast plethora of computer knowledge. Anyways, I had some problems uninstalling some programs. They wouldn't completely uninstall and were causing vast problems on my computer. :bang: So to make a long story short, I reformated my computer. Not too bad because I backed up all my Icewind Dale II games!
The problem is now when windows starts it asks for a user name and password. The first time it came up it said if I didn't enter anything, it wouldn't ask for a password. So I didn't, and it is asking for the damn thing. I was able to fix this before, but I have now forgotten how.
I am running Windows ME. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated!

[IMG] You should be able to do something about it in the Control Panel/Passwords. (That is, if ME still has it there, I'm using 98.)

But even there in 98 you can't disable passwords. You can install TweakUI (Powertoys) off the Windows CD, however, which allows you to set it so that it automatically enters the password for you every time.

    Tal, when you install Win98SE...
This will disable Win98SE passwords and all users will use the same profile. Since I don't plan to reinstall it on my PC at home, I won't enable them back and experiment with it, however I'll check on my job if it's possible to remove this in case you've started initially with passwords usage.

One thing - we use all windows versions except WinME and WinXP. Too buggy, both of them. So, I can't experiment with those. Sorry.

I have it set so that all users use the same profile but it still asks for the password.

When you install Win98, and it starts for the first time, only then you have a chance of skipping the password - by leaving the password field empty.
As I said, I'll check the possibility of removing that box in the case you haven't skip it when you've installed Win98.

Go under your control panel, under "Networking".

Remove/Uninstall "Microsoft Networking". This is made for a LAN; it will not remove your ability to dialup or TCP/IP the internet. It will just remove that stupid password prompt. Leave the TCP/IP and Ethernet Card drivers intact.

This is like, a normal part of any Win9x installation.

    Go Microsoft.

EJ, that's what I needed to do. It worked and now I don't have that stupid prompt. Thanks
