    [IMG] geez. I just heard that our university is planning to implement "toilet timers" that will "automatically close in 2minutes whether you're done or not". WHAT. THE. FCUK. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I take a pretty long time on the toilet.I think it's crazy to implement this stupid thing. Also, what happens if someone has diarrhea or something?

    What'll these goddamn bureaucrats think of next.

    Guess the point is this: there is a lot of people and some people like to take their time on the toilet. Some of them have physical need for that, others just like to read their news there, and then there are those who take some kind of sadistic pleasure of making others wait. So, thankfully, the General Toilet Commitee has decided to put in "toilet-timers" to ensure that everyone gets an equal share of toilet time. :D

    Toilet timers are a good idea, even if they do feel like a gross violation. Heck, toilet timers used to serve as torture in prisons and POW camps. I suppose those who really need more than two minutes (which is much more than you actually need to do it and leave), should get a special card to make it more. Toilet blockers are way worse than toilet timers, trust me.

    The timer is activated when you swipe your university ID on some kind of scanner i believe. I think the purpose is so that they can "monitor" who is using the bathroom and when . yeesh. also, they're going to put cameras in the bathroom. as if people would take a crap in the sink :rolleyes:

    @Argohir

    its no joke. saw it on the university newspaper. chee. they're also trying to ban all types of slippers. its sad is what it is.

    Cameras in the bathroom? That's illegal in Finland. Yes, anywhere in the bathroom, including the sinks. Trikes me as odd that this isn't so in all other countries as well (well the more developed countries anyhow).

    As for the timer, I can see why they'd do that if there was a problem of too many students and too few bathrooms. 2 minutes is afterall more than enough to do what you need to do and get out. Many are used to sitting 5-10 minutes at a time, yes, but that's mostly just a matter of convenience. Still, if it were up to me I'd make it more like 3-4 minutes. Actually, if it were up to me I'd just use the cash reserved for that system to make more bathrooms instead.

    While the idea itself doesn't seem that odd to me, I must say it reminds me of the first few weeks in the Finnish army. :) "Rise and shine everyone! Get out from the bed NOW! You have exactly one minute to run down the hall, take a shower, and come back to make your bed! Now MOVE IT!" Heh. Those stupid memories are finally starting to seem golden to me. Not enough to make me want to go back though.

    Is that legal?!

    Anyways, the idea is pretty lame. Fortunately, my university doesn't use Gestapo-methods like that to lower the time span of people's bathroom visits. And I have to disagree with those who think that two minutes is more than enough time. It seems pretty steep to my, especially if you've spent most of the day in the reading room, drinking cop after cop of coffee :coffee:

    That is just stupid. You can't force someone to finish in 2 minutes. And if you're not done, then what? You clean up and take the toilet paper out with you?

    Where is this University? I would personally desecrate that throne if it shut on me before I was finished. Probably what the cameras are for, but it takes a really sick person to get off watching people do their business, and some do. I would be worried about the guy watching the monitors recording people and putting it on some sick fetish site, and I don't care what you say, you couldn't stop them from doing that. I really think this is some kind of joke, because NOBODY would go to a college that recorded you while you ****. It is a serious violation of my rights to privacy, and no court would uphold the schools "right" to film people who enrolled there. that's just sick. :toofar:

    @Uytuun
    They're now talking about ALL slippers. But right now (since when, I don't know) thong slippers aren't allowed. Yeah, they come up with some pretty stupid rules. And if you guys can believe it, this is one of the Top 3 Colleges in the Philippines and most probably the most expensive one as well.

    yeah, the cameras are definitely "Bisg Brotherish" and I'm going to ask the Student Council if they're actually ALLOWED to do that. Presumably they are otherwise it wouldn'tve been in the school paper, so I'll ask WHY as well.

    I think the cameras will be wither above the door or sink, so they will not see you if the toilet door is closed or if (for guys like me) you urinate near the urinal and not far away from it. I still think it's unwarranted though.

    there's a ton of other stupid stuff that the school does and when it starts affecting me personally, i'll post it here too :D

    You're in the Philipines, Enagonios? That explains something. No school in America could get away with that, people would literally be up in arms over the cameras at least. But we can be odd at times.

    I've seen timed toilets before. If you're in there too long, the door swings open - wide open - so you have to get up, and take about 2 steps forward to reach the door handle. Which must be hard if your pants are around your ankles. :eek: :rolling:

    Hell, the restroom stalls in a lot of places don't have doors, or even walls. The public parks in Tulsa have only 1/2 walls (4 ft tall) around each stall (enclosed in a building of course). I don't think a door swinging open would even faze me.

    In case anyone is wondering, the parks have a problem with single men who want a random homosexual hookup meeting in the restrooms, so they make sure that there is minimal privacy to discourage it.

    I can see timers, but only as a voluntary method (timer beeps to let you know that you need to fold up your newspaper and move on). If you are ill, and need more time, you should take it, but you are going to get harassed by anyone waiting their turn. I think 4 or 5 minutes is a more reasonable time frame though.

    Cameras in bathrooms are evil, of course. Whatever part of bathroom it is, unless they are clearly visible and warnings are all over the place or some such.

    And what kind of slippers are being banned? I mean, who would ban a type of shoes? Then again, Enagonios says "thong slippers" and I can't associate shoes with thongs anyhow.

    I think he means flip flops, though why they'd be banned is beyond me. Maybe for health reasons, i.e. to encourage wearing closed toed shoes?

    err over here we call em thong slippers, but they're the rubber slippers that have that "divider" between your big toe and all your other toes. Those have been banned before I started going to university around 2 years ago. Now they're trying to get ALL slippers banned. Yeesh.
