[IMG] I saw "Timeline" today. Although it had most of the storyline from the book, the film was unable to capture everything that made the book so good.

The characters are uninteresting and lack depth. Easily, the deepest and most interesting character in the movie, was my least favorite in the book: Deckert, the bad guy. Although his role is dimished in the movie version, he is a sympathetic villain who has finally understood the ramifications of his timejumping, and has decided to give the past a shot.

Overall, 2 swords out of 5. You'd be better off brewing a mug o' tea and settling in with the book than seeing this one on the big screen.

Reminds me of Clooney's version of Solaris. The whole thing just felt... empty.

I haven't seen the movie yet,and I guess now I won't go out of my way to catch it.The book was fine, Crichton doesn't seem to be able to write a bad book. But I think that Timeline was not one of his best, and better books he wrote were made into bad movies,so this doesn't really come as a surprise.Actually,I can't think of many books that were transferred successfully to the big screen.

off topic - shouldn't there be a Movies forum here on SP? just a thought.

Haven't seen it yet, but I am hoping to see it soon - guess I should dust off my copy of Timeline and read it before I go see the movie.

I loved the book, and am sadly prepared for yet another movie adaptation that butchers a book badly.

Shameless plug - I am still taking suggestions for movies to review and put in the SP Movies Section. Anyone with a movie that they would REALLY like to see reviewed by "yours truly" can PM me, and I will take care of it ASAP (If I can get a hold of a copy of the film, of course)

I was bitterly disappointed with the film. Of course, I expected way to much. Just taken as an adventure film, it isn't bad. It's pretty empty, felt a little rushed, and didn;t have a whole lot of depth, but I still would enjoy it.

That is, if I hadn't read the book. The book was very good, it had me up late nights to finish it. Well, three late nights anyhow. But it was so much dumbed down for film. The plot was simpler, they took out the quantum theory, and the whole language thing was completely stricken.

Also, they took some serious liberties with the characters. Sure, they can make the professor Chris' father to make it more dramatic, but what'd they do to André!?
