To PSP or not to PSP? That is the question.

I think he means Play Station Portable.

I would wait, but then I really don't get the whole handheld thing. I don't even like laptops because you trade too much computer power for energy conservation to make the battery last longer.

Given the interest in the market, and the number of competitors that have been announced, Sony will have to drop the price, probably at least 2/5ths in the nest year. At that price point it seems like an interesting toy to me.

I have almost no situations in my life where I am on the go, away from my PC, but when I would have time to play a game (i.e. I would be driving or working) so this product would be next to useless for me.

    LOL!

PSP is like when someone mentions WC3. I'm thinking "Wing Commander III".

I agree with Dockworker. I don't have any use for a PSP. There was a time when I messed around with a Gameboy quite a bit, and I was the Final Fantasy Adventurest adventurer that ever adventured. But I've gotten away from consoles, whether they be portable or otherwise, simply because of the depth of the PC games. There was a time when I was absolutely, positively set on getting a couple Xboxs. I was going to slap a mod-chip in them and wire them together as a web/ftp server. And then when I started looking at prices, I realized the $100 sale was long since over. I would never even consider an Xbox for actual gaming.

I want a keyboard. I want a trackball. I want eight or ten different joysticks from which to choose. I want to be able to alt-tab out and look at the walkthrough or run the trainer. I want someone to make another joystick that improves on the Firebird 2, in every way, including macros and total number of buttons and oversized base.

If it were me, and I was actually going to buy some portable gamer, I'd walk right down to the local CompUSA (I'm boycotting Bestbuy) and look at the games. If there was one single game that seriously looked like I could get into, I'd get a PSP. If the Nintendo one (whatever it is, DS?) had the superior game, I'd get it.

    ---

This is why the war over Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is so intense. Blu-Ray easily has the superior technology, and it will certainly grab hold of the computer consumers for it's raw capacity and speed. But to help it along, it's going to need content, which is why Disney and a few other companies have sided with it over the MPAA's HD-DVD hellspawn offering.

Content. The DS might have a higher resolution screen, but go with the games you like.

    hehe I can relate ;)

Yeah, I'll probably just wait for the price to drop then pick it up cheap(er) than it is now.

300 bucks of a handheld is waste of money, if all it can do is play games with limited batteries. With that kind of money you can get a phone with MP3 playback, radio, mini-TV, camera (crappy one, though), and gadgets (like java-games, alarm, etc).

chev, have no idea what you wanted to say.

wirhe, i already have a phone, but can't the PSP play mp3s as well as movies and it's games as well? Also, I've heard/read that it has the best gameplay/graphics of all the handheld players.
