this may sound like a fairly dumb question, but im a totally noob when it comes to multiplayer BG2, i really olny know how to make a party of up to 6 people, not much else, so im gonna ask it anyway, if i want to play a multiplayer game of TOB with my friends what do i and they need to do?

-what connection do we all choose?
-if my game is modded, does that mean they cant join my game if i hosted
-because my game is modded does that mean i cant join their game

if its possible could anyone who helps me provide screenshots to go with your replies, that would be great.

also my friend seems to have trouble installing mods, he has SOA and TOB installed and the latest patch (in that order), when he runs the ease of use mod install program, it says it cant find the dialog.tlk file, even though the are in the same folder, did he forget to do something?

I can't really comment on the multiplayer part, but the mod install issue your friend is having sounds similar to one that I had once. The solution is that I forgot to extract the .zip or .rar file to my BGII directory before running the mod install program.

You must unzip every file in the mod's rar file to BG2 folder and try again.

pretty sure he had tried that, but ill tell him do do that,

any ideas for the multiplayer thing, i dont have my manual anymore so i dont really know what to do, also i am totally clueless as to whether the mods will affect the game.

if i have the mod but they dont, does that mean they cant join my game, or i cant join there game, im am trying to find out whether we will need the same modded or unmodded game or is that not a problem

TC/IP if you're going over the internet.

Anyone wanting to join your game should have the exact same setup as you do; same mods, same patches, etc.. Check the kind of 'Net connection the players have as some may be slower/faster than others.

i thought so, for some reason my friend is having trouble installing the mods, i cant see what the problem is, its been so long since the first time i installed my mods, he has SOA then TOB, then the patch installed, he unzipped the mod files to the SOA directory where the dialog.tlk file is, but it says it cant find it.

so i think it may require i uninstall all of my mods then, hmm, thanks for the help

    oh i forgot to add;
we need to have the same part of the mods installed too,(or is that not a problem)

You need to have the same bits of mods installed, too.

i thought as much, hmm that weidu file has your mod install order right? might take a look at it, then give my friends the list.

Thanks Kuemper, and the others who have helped me.

Sorry about all this posting in the wrong place

i have another query, where do we get our IP addresses from?

does the game assign us one if so where can it be found, or do we use our own computers assigned IP address, which might be hard im on dial up, so my changes everytime i dial up
