    not in any particular order:
    • 1 Barbara Hambly - The Darwath series. Nice if you are looking for something a little different from the cliched wizards tossing spells left and right.
    • 2 JV Jones - The Baker's Boy Series. Compelling characters and a gripping story.
    • 3 Margaret Wiess and Tracy Hickman (Dragonlance founders) - The Death Gate Cycle. Seven of the Finest fantasy books ever. Yes, better than Dragonlance (IMHO).
    • 4 Alan Cole and Chris Bunch - The Anteros. A butch lesbian adventurer? Hell yeah! Note: that's NOT why it's in my top 5, it's just a great series.
    • 5 Douglas Niles - The Moonshae Trilogy. One of the early Forgotten Realms series, and one of the best. Better than Ed greenwood!

    1) Lord of the Rings

    3) Riddlemaster of Hed series by Patricia Mckillip

    4) Dragon Prince/Dragon Star series by Melanie Rawn.

    5) The Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock (arguably more than one series, but frequent enough crossovers to lump them all together).
