-Nalia was whining about her quest and I decided to pop over to shut her up and I've now gotten to Torgal, where my progress came to a grueling halt.

-In my party I have Minsc, Jahiera, Nalia and Yoshimo(Overkill, nono :D ?) and my PC is a Stalker. The party is mainly lvl 10 or thereabouts. What I've done so far is buff up my party with Bless, Divine Harmony, and Haste, summon some monsters, and a few more defensive spells. I then go in with Nalia and fireball Torgal from a distance, prompting him and his goons to advance on her. I send forward my summoned animals, retreat with Nalia and fire off another fireball. As my summoned animals get slaughtered I send Nalia back to the Umber Hulk room where the rest of my party is and have Jahiera cast entangle into Torgal's room. I block the door with Minsc and my PC while I have Jahiera cast all kinds of mind affecting spells and Nalia shoots of Magic Missiles and Melf's Acid Arrows. Minsc and PC go into melee at the door while Yoshimo pelts Torgal with Acid Arrows.

-The problem is that Torgal can kill either Minsc or my PC with 3-5 hits and I can't seem to kill him before he does that.

    -Any suggestions?

Stalker is indeed one of the most powerful characters if you know how to play with it. Give him a handful of invisibility potions and backstab Torgal repeatedly to his death while he is fighting with your summons. (The advantage of your Stalker PC over Yoshimo is that your PC attacks and backstabs with a fighter's THAC0 and won't miss many attacks.)

Don't cast fire ball while your summons are in the area of effect. Jaheira's "Insect Plague" is also a good spell to practice. It's not bad to tell Nalia to cast a "Lower Resistance Spell" on Torgal, because he has magic resistance.

In general, it's not a difficult fight in a non-modded game and there are several ways and tactics to win the battle.

One sure-fire way to take on Torgal with Nalia in the party is to have her cast Polymorph Self while the rest of the party equips missile weapons. Have her change into a mustard jelly and advance towards Torgal & company. When the trolls move forward to attack her have everyone target the same troll and attack until it's dead. Then rinse and repeat. This particular form of mustard jelly is totally immune to the trolls' piercing claw attacks, so everyone emerges unscathed.

You could have Minsc and your PC memorize Armor of Faith and cast that on themselves before the melee.

I like Entangle, Cloudkill and Fireball on Torgal.

A dose of dispel magic on Torgal seemed to boost my chances of success in this fight. Also the Flail of Ages seemed to slow him to a crawl. My swashbuckler/ Cleric Dual Class Lv.10/11 cleaned his clock while the rest of the party ( Minsc, Jahiera, Nalia, Jan and Yoshimo ) did his buddies. Greater malison helps also, it makes them more susceptible to slow, poison, chromatic Orb, and the effects of magic arrows and darts. The Wand of Monster Summoning will slow them down enough for you to get your spell and buffs ready.

Web -> Cloudkill -> Cloudkill [-> Fireball] [-> Ice Storm] etc.

Cheesier way is to lure Torg away from his bodyguards before they can see you. Just advance very little with each step, and immidiately back off when the big bad troll talks to you. IIRC the others will not notice you :D

-I finally took him out. The Mustard Jelly did the trick.

I'm glad I could be of assistance. :)

By the way, I forgot to add one word of warning. When using the Poly Self spell make sure that you change back to normal form before leaving the area; otherwise, a glitch in the game occasionally occurs where you get permanently stuck in whatever form you're in. I once had Nalia permanently transformed into a sword spider. :)
