[IMG] They weren't really true to the core story and stuff, but, hey, they had to modernize it. It was pure awesome imo. I never felt it drag and it was actually a pretty long movie.

and MEGAN FOX IS HOT

    anybody else see it yet?

Okay, time to put the Curmudgeon's Hatâ„¢ on, and ask: Is this a good thing?

I know product placement and sponsorship of movies is gradually growing, but with what I'm hearing about this film, it seems like it's just a one-hundred-forty-four minute car commercial. :(

Taking the feel of the film itself I've gotten from buzz and trailers, and General Motors' marketing of it, one would think Michael Bay has a leashed collar around his neck, and there's a Chevrolet logo on it...

Sorry for the dampener, but I had to speak my mind, and remember what my name is! :heh:

oh, its no dampener for me, I never said that it wasn't a really long car ad ;)

btw, movie running time is a bit over 2 hours. no, don't get frightened off, it didn't drag at all for me.

for anyone who still has a copy of the original 1986 Transformers: The Movie, watch it again before seeing this, some of the lines are repeated ;)

They were even able to use the same voice actor for Optimus Prime, good stuff.

Saw the movie on the 29th. And I have to agree with Enag, it doesn't feel like an automobile ad. True that the car manufacturers' logo are very prominent and blatant at times but it's easily forgivable with the actions and comedy supplied. Optimus Prime seems to be the only character that resembles the original, the others got a number of face lifts. But they're still good... with the exception of Frenzy (Radio/CD player) which I felt was too cartoony. The story was ok but there are a number of loopholes like... *SPOILER* how such hi-tech and intelligent NBEs can search the internet, connect a guy to a certain discovery, finds the great grandson, even found a top secret organization, then when through all the trouble of trying to get to the all important clue when they could have simply just bought it on ebay. *END SPOILER* :D but really, it can easily be disregarded. ;)

i saw the movie, the whole ebay plothole you point out dosn't really strike me as a big plothole, i mean if they bought the item, they would have to a) get cash, b) get an adresse where the item would be sent too.

part a might be easy for big robotcars, part b not so much. anyhows the movie is great :p

It was an okay way to spend 2 hours...I never really watched the cartoons when I was a kid, so I think that worked in my favor...

@equester, who ever said you need cash to make an online transaction? If they can hack into Pentagon under 10 seconds, they can create paypal accounts or credit card accounts or even hi-jack Bill Gates' account. Get an address? Why go through all the trouble? Can't they just pretend that they'll pay a $100 cash for the item provided Sam personally delivers it to a police car (a.k.a. Barricade) in a designated area. Or maybe they just inform Sam, through email or a phone call, that they will pass by his place and he can just hand it over (without actually scaring him). Are those really so hard to do?

But yup, it is a great movie. ;D

nior, your plothole made me think of an even more immediate one.

    SPOILER:

Fact: Even aside from Megatron, the Deceptecons were on earth first with the exception of maybe Bumblebee. This is proven by Bumblebee having to signal the other Autobots to come land.

Fact: The Deceptecons weren't sure what they were looking for which is why Blackout had to take out that whole U.S base top try and access thier files. When he was interrupted, Frenzy had to break into Airforce1's computers and get the info from there. He was able to obtain part of the Project: Iceman file. Presumably, he recognized Megatron from what he was able to gather and since Sam Witwicky's grandpa was mentioned in the file, he searches for Witwicky in the internet and hits the ebay entry with the glasses. Only then do they realize who/what they're after.

We've established that the Deceptecons (who had the advantage of being on earth first and in numbers) needed to go through some trouble in order to find the iceman file which pointed them towards sam which led them to the glasses.

Here's the question: If they had to go through all that, and with the obvious advantages they had, how the hell did Bumblebee know to look for and protect Sam in the first place??

I've brought this up with friends already and the only reason they can give is that "Bumblebee must've hacked the files before the Deceptecons." Pitifully weak with no evidence supporting it. If you guys have any ideas, Id really like to hear them, maybe I missed something.

hehe, sorry, this movie brought out my inner geek :D

There were too many plot holes (hilighted nicely by Enag above), missed opportunities and downright unbelievable lameness in the movie that kept me from REALLY loving it. I did enjoy the movie a great deal, though.

For example: was it necessary to make the 21-year-old genius NSA data analyst with top-level security clearance who figures it ALL out while the experts fumble around clueless a gorgious tan blonde Aussie Abercrombie & Fitch model, too?

Or how about John Turturo's (who I usually love) 'Section 7' guy being such a spazz for no apparent reason?

Or how about how, once his temperature drops slightly below polar freezing, Megatron was able to break free - yet they were somehow able to transport him from Antarctica at that temperature back in the 1940's, when such deep-freezing technology didn't exist yet?

Etc. etc. Michael Bay is kind of a tool.

Oh my, enags and DR, the spoiler I initially posted was just the tip of the iceberg. In another forum, I've actually stopped at 10... although there were some more. Anyway, I don't think it's gonna be a good idea to give out some more spoilers. I mean we all know Bay's expertise had always been explosions and action scenes... not well thought out plots. Besides we did enjoy the film and that's what we paid for.

Quite right. Regarding spoilers - no one wanting spoilers should be reading this thread anyway.

Just watched it. Quite enjoyed it actually. Just have to keep an open mind about the major plotholes and the changes they made to the original story. But then again, my expectations were quite low from the trailers, lol. The trailers look darn cheesy. Only MAJOR gripes are (plotholes aside):
    a) The Autobots seem awfully outmatched at first glance but the Decepticons are pretty wimpy and got wiped out pretty easily.
    b) The ending was really really and I mean really crappy

I enjoyed the movie. I found some of the silly humor... a little too high school for my taste, but that's just me. Plenty of high schoolers I'm sure thought that Bumblebee pissing on the Sector 7 guy was just the greatest thing ever. I found it a pretty cheap joke, and not likely how I'd expect the Autobots to behave. But hey, it got laughs, so who am I to get all crotchety. I'm most excited for the sequel. With how well the first did (and continues to do), the budget for subsequent movies will surely be HUGE. That means more screen time for the Transformers, and probably a lot of new and cool possibilities.

    * * * *

Almost on topic, but certainly something of an aside, my almost-4-year-old son is completely in love with Transformers right now. We saw the movie together on the 4th and he's pretty much gone gaga over them. He's even got most of their names memorized at this point.

I've been getting him the Fast Action Transformers toys (which are supposed to be ages 4+, but are still pretty challenging for my son to transform on his own). So far he's got Optimus, Bumblebee and Jazz (autobots) and Megatron, Blackout, Barricade, and Brawl (Decepticons). I think I'm having just as much finding them in the stores as he's having getting them and playing with them. I'll probably at least get him Bonecrusher (he LOVES BC), Starscream, Ratchet, and Ironhide before I call it quits. The local Walmart currently has Frenzy, which I'm not sure whether I'm going to bother picking up.

Probably bad of me to spoil my son like this, but I'm reliving some nostalgia from my younger years, and the fact that he's so into the TF just fuels the fire! Plus, we just gave birth to our second son last week, so the Transformer toys are helping to soften the blow that our older son isn't the center of attention anymore!

I have just come back from a preview screening in Wellington New Zealand & I can tell you now that this movie raises the bar on all before it - the story , special effects , acting , pacing were all top notch but oh my god the action was non stop ! . I went to the movie not knowing much about the history of transformers & now I have been transformed " this movie is the best so far this year by quite a margin " , go see it you won't be disappointed " not at all " . One of the things I liked was the humor & it worked very well in the context of the film - there was allot of laugh out loud moments , People just wait till the end climax of the film it is the most awesome special effects action sequence ever put together on film . This movie is 10/10 no question about that .
