Does this work? I'm considering travelling with 3 or 4 NPCs throughout SoA. I'd gain levels faster this way, and I'd be able to add in all of the NPCs for their side quests this way (even more XP, plus I'd get to see more interactions).

I'd then be set up (if I wanted to) to add big bro in ToB without droping anybody.

I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work out, but I thought I'd ask to see the opinions of others who have tried smaller parties in the past.

It should work fine. I played this way too, with 4-5 characters until ToB.

No problemo. Just make sure you got the essential spells covered.

My own crew rarely numbers over four. Until ToB.

The best number imo would be three especially if you plan to take Jahiera since that way by the time you complete SoA and WK she will get past the level 14 barrier and you will then be able to fill up the rest of the party with plenty of xp to go.

As for party size I think I might even go so far to say that a party size of 3 or 4 at their prime potential (characters, items and exp wise) can beat a party of 6 at thier prime potential. it all comes down to how you use what you're given.

I think it works fine. I went all the way to Spellhold with just two, picked up Imm, then went to SOA and picked up Saravok, then completed the game. total 4 members.
