Trouble adding custom voices

So I recently fired up BG2 after having, finally, completed BG1 for the first time. I was all ready to import my character and get going. But his voice doesn't exist in BG2; I had the Scotsman, Male 3--'time for a bit o' the rough and tumble'--and it's not one of the voice options for SoA.

I think it's incredibly silly to remove voices, especially in a game where you can import characters, but that's beside the point.

I tried two solutions--copying the voice files I really wanted over, and downloading a voice set that would do--and neither worked. Copying the Male3 set into the SoA sound folder (replacing "Male3" with "Scotsman" to differentiate it from SoA's Male3) didn't produce any results at all. No Scotsman voice set appeared anywhere in-game. I suspect this is because SoA voice sets include numerous contexts BG1 voice sets do not; if I added a short .wav of silence with the appropriate names for all of the new contexts, would that work? Is there some other way to get the BG1 voices to work properly?

The other solution I tried was downloading the Rewdalf voice set. It's a different and altogether saltier variety of Scot, and with a higher-pitched voice, but it would work. The voice set appeared in-game once it was installed, I applied it via the Customization screen, and lo-and-behold, Rewdalf voice set. Except that all of the sounds played in slow motion, which made my character sound like some kind of monster. It was kind of cool, actually, sort of a whale-like rumbling, but not at all the lovable, boisterous Scottish paladin I'd been trying to recreate. Does anyone have any idea why the custom voice set would do that? I checked all of the .wav files themselves, they're fine.

EDIT: Actually, the problem with Rewdalf seems to be confined to the last three of the normal selection sounds; all the .wavs are fine, though. I'm still puzzled.

That typically happens if the file is being played back at a lower sample rate. If they're .wav files, the sample rate is generally 44100. (.mp3s sometimes are lower.) I'm not familiar with how BG handles voice audio though, so no idea why it would be happening. It could be your system however, or possibly movie playback in BG ... if something tells your soundcard to start playing back audio at a different sample rate, it will generally stay at that rate until it's told to go back. Various system sounds and/or third party sounds may be at a lower sample rate, though that should largely be a thing of the past. Likewise with things like in-game movies.

So I figured out what's up with the BG1 voice set. I named it Scotsman--eight characters--and the game only likes up to seven.

Renaming it 'Scot' worked like a charm, and I have that voice set going.

Still no clue what's up with Rewdalf; I guess I'll go investigate that sample-rate thingy.
