Hi all. New poster, member and player. What's more, I'm playing without an instruction booklet, so any help is appreciated!

I'm running a party with 2 Paladins, a Barbarian, Thief, Priest and Wizard. Try as I might, I can't get past those Orcs behind barrels at the start of the second scenario. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Welcome. I assume you mean the Orcs you encountered immediately after you have left Targos. If so, the key to getting past them is to leave the barrells intact and use ranged weapons and spells to kill the Orcs. That helps to make sure you don't get surrounded. Try and focus on the Orc Shamans first as they will keep summoning monsters to attack you on your side of the barrels. After that, focus on the Orc Archers. Finally, pick off the helpless melee Orcs. Have fun!

    Happy to help.
You can destroy the barrels if you didn't know that already, and close in on the orcs for melee. Alternately, you can switch over to ranged weapons and move characters that don't have ranged weapons out of range of the orcs. A couple of arrows will perforate the orcs for you, and you can focus on the shamans, because they have summons. Your mage can also magic missile for you, and fireball if he's at a high enough level.

By this time you should have picked up a few potions of oil of fiery burning. Lob them at the barrels and you'll kill (or at least badly injure) all the orcs thereabouts.

Arrows are cheap. Send them some before splitting the kegs that are blocking the way. You might also consider breaking just one or two of them and having your best tanks defend while the rest of the party fire arrows from behind their backs. If your wizard isn't a total don't-hurt-me sissy, you can try Aggannazzar's Scorcher if you have it.

Your paladin has Protection from Evil ability that adds +2 deflection bonus to your AC. You could cast it on the toughest guy and use him as a bait while the other gentry fire arrows. Your wizard might also have Cat's Grace - to cast on the same guy, giving 1 or 2 AC bonus more. Your priest's Bull's Strength spell will provide some better attack bonus and damage.
