[IMG] If you spend two point on single weapon style, you get a nice armor class bonus. Is that bonus only in effect if you are using a single weapon?

Example: you have two points in single weapon style, taking your base AC from 10 to 8. But for a certain fight, you want to use a shield. Once you equip the shield, do the 2 points of bonus go away, so that you're back to 10?

Another example: you have two points in single, but you later spend some points in two weapon style. Once you actually wield two weapons, do your AC bonuses from single style points disappear (temporarily)?

Sadly they dissapear temporarily. The idea of single weapon style is that in addition to the AC-bonus You make critical hits twice as much.
Sometimes it can be preferred to use a shield if it has some kind of additional protection, eg. Prot. Vs. Charm, acid, fire etc.

Likewise if You dual-wield the bonus will also dissapear. Temporarily.

The single weapon fighting style has been likely made for the kensai kit, who can't use shields and any other armor. It can be useful with the archer kit too.

Otherwise, I think two weapon style is much better.

But the single-weapon style,d idn;t it give bonus to missile-attacks only? For a fighter/ranger, there are only two very intersting styles, sword and shield or two-weapon-style.

It is sword and shield that only gives bonuses vs. missile weapons, single weapon gives a straight AC bonus.

Single weapon is good for certain classes. My Archer and my monk both have a point in it, as it is useful for when you are switching from bow to melee for the archer, or when the monk is using a melee weapon instead of sling or hands. (Usually to use special bonuses on the weapon) Since you generally have other characters using the two handed weapons, a single weapon prof to go with that longsword, or flail. Single weapon is great for thieves because it allows extra AC in melee, extra crits in backstabs, and you can switch to a shortbow easily for support.
