[IMG] I am stuck in a section of the Asylum. I just put all the paintings on the walls, and I am having a difficult time with the Ulitharid. I can beat him, but he is killing like 2 or more members of my party. I look at the stats and he has only hit them twice, each time for 1 point of damage. How in the hell is he killing them so fast? Anybody?

[IMG] Ther is a cleric spell named "Chaotic Commands" that could come in handy when dealing with mindflayers, spores and folk like that...

I usually summon a couple of skeletons and let them take the heat while the rest of the party kills him with arrows. The trick is to get out of the way when you open the door and let the flayer target your skeletons.

Hmm, that is correct! Skeletons are immune to the illithid non-magic domination and their intellgience drain.

    Use them.

Just recently I fought the mindflayers in Athkatla. In the southern portion of the sewers there is a merchant who has some nice yellow potions - of magic shielding I suppose. They give you an extra 50% magic res and make all the saving throws automatic. I gave those to my three fighters and just breezed through the area without taking a single point of damage (all of my tanks have AC -8 or better).

One of the possibilities, another one is to use the greenstone-amulet you find in the beholderslair. It wil make you immune to the domination. When you us eit, it is very easy to kill the mindflayers.

Just a thought - you have to be a wee bit careful with the amulet - it has a restricted number of loads. It´s kinda silly to find the last one gone when standing inmisdst of mindflayiers...

You can just pick one from any Morenkadian's sword.
You can also have a thief or two block the door whilest you pick iff the suckers with ranged weapons..

Pick-pocket Mordy's Sword for a Greenstone Amulet with 10 (I think) charges on it, but it doesn't ALWAYS stop the Ulitharids. Skeletons, having no brain to suck, are the best 'blockers', especially skeleton warriors as they take more damage.

As to the Black Balde, I wasn't going to waste a level 9 spell to find out..
