ok, once again, I'm sure this has been answered but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

Uninstalled the game. It's convinced it's still installed. It won't auto-launch install, or install when I try to open the nice little install icon in CD1.

Instead it does an un-install, which appears to work properly, but when I try to install again it un-installs again.

This wacky, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't tell me you deleted the game just by deleting the map BG2??? Maybe you have to use a registry-cleaner, that not all of the game is removed there?

go to the add/remove programs program in control panel with cd1 in the cdrom drive, click the install button and it will recognize the install program on the disk, tell it to install and you got it. if this doesnt work, i cant help you.

Have a look at the official support site. There is a list of known issues and one explains how to uninstall it properly if there are problems. In particular it explains how to remove BG2 references in the registry. Doing this might enable your system to see it has been removed and so allow the option to reinstall as normal. Anyway, here is the link:

Then start c:bad:windows\regedit.exe - and find and delete the keys associated with Baldur's Gate2 Shadows of Amn. Continue until you find nothing about BG2 in your registry.

A very boring and slow process, but effective. I have solved this problem you mentioned once with this program.
