I've just got to Underdark and I've explored it thoroughly. There is a little gnome village, a cave I cant go in and this giant door that won't open without drow magic. The duergar wants me to do this mini-quest about some mage...
    Any help would be great...

    [IMG] Pull yourself together man.

Ok. Have you talked to the leader of the "dugars"? ;) You know the whole, "take me to your leader thing"? Offer to help him with the unnatural monster that has been troubling the gnomes' mining efforts or kill the gnome leader if you're evil. Either way, you should get the sun/light gem that lets you past the blocked cave. And you won't be getting into the drow city until you've gotten into that other cave. So first things first.

Also the mini-quest with the mage is not essential but can be done for items and exp. Just talk to the "dugars" and one of them has the mages lost book.

OK first of all try using some capitals otherwise your post is nothing but confusion. Second this is a minor spoiler. You have to do that quest for the svirfneblin guy where you kill a balor and will further on considering that you've killed the demon get a gem that will allow you to enter that cave. The story will lead you on from here.

Big B, what "dugars"? The Svirfneblin leader has the light gem and the svirfneblin innkeeper has the book. There's another quest in that area that involves the iron sphere. I'd do all of them, they're fun quests. The duergar merchants have a number of items and spells for sale. You might want to have your mages stock up.

[The original post was all covered with typos, including "dugars". As you could have seen, it's been edited "just a lil'".] -Ex
