I'm now reading Unfinihed Tales (by Tolkien off course)... I know some people adore the Silmarillion but not all did like it like the Silmarillion. I was wondering f everybody like Unfinihed Tales as much as I do.... It's about the old time but more detailed stories, where the Silmarillion is more about history and the stories are rather short, and with facts and less details etc.

[IMG] I wouldn't really go as far as to say that I adore Silmarillion... or Unfinished Tales for that matter. But I enjoyed Unfinished Tales more than Silmarillion, which is basically a history book with little interesting happening. Too bad the part on the Istari in Unfinished Tales is so short, since it is (in my opinion) the most interesting read in the whole book.

I haven't read Unfinished Tales but I have read The Silmarillion and I adore it! :p:grin::p

The stories of Beren and Luthian and Turin Turambar are best.

Well I think both books have a good and a less good part. The good thing of the Silmarillion is that there is a line in the book, that connects all small stories. It is a bit like the bible, it starts with the creation of the world and contains many stories from the first Era until the 3rd. It contains much background information on Lord of the Rings too. The less good thing is that the stories are unlike Lord of the Rings, short and not very detailed. But the Silmarillion really shows how genious Tolkien was. Lord of the Rings is a very good story, but in Silmarillion you see that Tolkien didn't create only a good story, but he created a whole world, with a beginning, with culture (languages, subraces etc), with a history.... it contains all what a world needs to have... and this makes his fantasy world very interesting.

Unfinished Tales doesn't have much connections between the different stories but the stories are longer and contain much more details, that's why I love Unfinished Tales. The stories are great..... I really love the description of the Hidden Entrance to Gondolin and the story of Turin (Narn i hin Hurin) and the rest I still have to read.
