IGN has posted an updated look at Dragonshard, dealing with the combat system and the role of captains in it and the connection between this and the roleplaying genre. Also, they speak a bit about the buildings and the overall graphics in the game. Here's a snip:

May 3, 2005 - Atari's pre-E3 event was full of games, many of which were surprisingly PC games. Two of those titles are pretty well anticipated for the simple fact of their origin. Dungeons & Dragons Online is probably a little more recognizable, but Liquid Entertainment's Dragonshard, which moves the license to the world of Eberron, is looking quite good for a lot of reasons. There isn't a lot that's new from the last time we took a look at the game, but we did get a chance to have a couple of details clarified about the way some of the systems work.

One of the interesting things about Dragonshard is the fact that it is based off of an RPG and therefore borrows heavily from that gameplay type. Aside from the adventuring done in the underground dungeons and catacombs beneath each level, the captain units will actually be able to gain levels. For those that don't know, unit types are divided into four categories. Captains are the workhorses of the bunch and the only units that can gain levels. Soldiers can be called by captains to aid in battle and have the added benefit of acting as a meat shield so that captains can't be focus targeted by large groups of enemies.

Above captains are champions, of which there are four for each of the three sides, that have special abilities and gain items and loot instead of levels. Finally there are juggernauts, which are the huge and powerful endgame type units that can deal out ridiculous amounts of damage.
