[IMG] In World Basketball; Yugoslavia kicked USA's ass 81-78 and eliminated them from the world cup.

    What's your opinion on this?

That's hilarious! They should be profoundly embarrassed. :)

Yeah, but that is a little embarrassing.

That's like the Olympic Dream Team winning by anything under a 40 point spread.

    /me is harshed...

It seems like a close game of only three points. If I were on the U.S. team, I wouldn't be ashamed.

Unless the Yugoslavia team is normally very bad, of course.

The reason it's so embarrassing is that they were undefeated (50 some games) until now and normally win by an average of 30 points.

To actually lose two games in a row (Argentina first and now Yugoslavia) and be ELIMINATED without ANY medal is just too much! :)

Well, when put in that context, it's then pretty embarrassing.

Heh. Believe it or not, it made me chuckle too.

Those NBA guys have had no respect for other teams, and I was happy to see Argentina smack 'em around.

I'm really surprised Yugoslovia was able to beat 'em again.

Well, I'm glad certainly :D :D :D especially cause we started out pretty badly. We lost four consecutive games in the preparation period (3 of those in Belgrade and in the fourth we were defeated by New Zealand - who is our next opponent). Then when the competition started we lost to Spain and Puerto Rico.

Now by this time, as you can well imagine, nobody had very high hopes. Fortunately, Divac and co. managed to get their act together first against Brazil and now against the US. So things seem to be getting better (although I'm terrified that they'll get too complacent after this victory and that New Zealand might well win).

As for the US, I don't think they should be ashamed. It was a good game, well played on both sides (and Yugoslavia IS the defending champion after all). This defeat also means that next time the best players (Kobe, Shaq etc) might actually play - and that then we'll watch another dream team (of course now they have to qualify for the Olympics first ;) ).

EDIT: The only people who should be ashamed are the fans - if they want to see their team win then they should come out and support it. The US had the homecourt advantage but you couldn't guess that from yesterday's game.

I'm glad they lost. But I'm not glad its Serbia that beat them.
Now we'll never hear the end of it. Oh well, I can't really complain when my country dropped from top 3 in the world to not even qualifying.
Even though I will always have some 'negative emotions' towards Serbia I think they deserved to beat the USA.

[IMG] I'm glad we lost too. No team that puts so little into such an event deserves to win any medal whatsoever.

And I love to see the conceited NBA elite humbled.

    Damn! Didn't catch this one.

Can somebody kindly post a link? I'm curious how it all panned out. Thanks.

They topped it off by losing to Spain! Great effort guys!
Next time, take the competition seriously.

    That's hilarious.

We didn't send slouches either. They weren't of the Michael Jordan/Jason Kidd/Chris Webber/Tim Duncan variety, but Reggie Miller, Paul Pierce, and the rest are not exactly minor leaguers.

I'm still not betting against us for the Olympics, though.

[IMG] In the end Yugoslavia won the championship :D by beating Argentina in the finals. So the US lost to the two best teams.

(Oh, and Spain too but that really didn't have any significance in the chapionship)

[IMG] Like an ancient Persian general said in ancient times after the Thermopiles battle:

"An army of 5,000 goats led by 5 lions can and will certainly beat an army of 5,000 lions led by 5 goats".

It wasn't the soldiers, it was the general that has to be ... (insert your bad feeling here) ...

Like Shralp said accuratelly; USA didn't send slouches. But I have to say USA hopefully will learn the lesson that there is never a small opponent or an easy fight.

Szun-Tzu said that you always have to respect your foe, no matter the size or appearance.

And Vukodlak: I take off my hat to Yugoslavia. They certainly showed the too often forgotten lesson: "Always do your best".

    Poor USA.
But I mean that honestly they could and should have performed better. It was a disgrace to even wach the game!

No, there are lots of easy fights.

One time I took Taluntain's lollipop away. That was easy.
