Does anyone here besides myself ever carry backup unenchanted weapons with them beyond Irenicus dungeon? they can be a life saver against mages that like to cast pro magic weapons.

No, but that's a good idea.

The only other place I considered them being useful was when fighting magic golems, but there are more than enough normal weapons hanging around where said golems are found, so I've found little point wasting the inventory space. But that's me.

I hear ya DR. It´s just deadweight. If you cant survive long enough against a Mage with PfMW you probalby shouldn´t be there anyway :)

Originally I didn't carry normal weapons but now I tend to play with the bottomless bag of holding mod (Cespy's pack rat comment really applies to me ;) ) so I will bring some along.

    I'm the same as Jsbb.

Not to force opinions on anyone but say you have a fighter heavy party and maybe 1 or 0.5 mages, and your fighting against 2 or more powerful enemy mages with pro-magic weapons, 4-5 GWW'd or IH fighters would be able to cut them down, stoneskin and all, in the time it takes to say the words "magic missles" if not faster ;)

The only glaring problem with this is that you never have to take on multiple mages that uses the said protections, until ToB which I rarely play, or if using tactics or whatever.

If you have Keldorn in your party with The Holy Avenger you don't need to worry about Mages and Protection from Magic Weapons.

    Carsomyr won't hit through PfMW.

Why bother? Breach will crack down the mages fast enough anyway.

It's a good strategy, but I've found that I can take out the mages pretty easily anyway.

I tend to have a non-magic weapon in my spare weapon slots. Mostly from the beginning - I never use four weapon slots anyway, and I keep forgetting to drop them.

The only time it was useful was when I had no mages to breach or reveeal improved invisibled mages.

However, with Moonfruit's Improved Master Brain mod, they were useful with the surprise magic golems in that mod LOL.

Yes, I do carry around a normal weapon for each of my frontline melee characters.

Sometimes, it's just less tedious to click on the weapon slot and then click on the mage instead of casting Breach or using Carsomyr's cheesy ability.

Shura's pretty much said everything I feel, and also it's usful when you want to conserve your Abjuration spells for the really difficult fights.

I generally carry at least a basic quarterstaff for myself. It's rare to need non-magical weapons but it pays to be careful if you play a 'no re-loads', only one life game, as I do. If you allow yourself multiple re-loads etc. then the game simply poses no threats; if you fail in any situation, you can just go back with the correct equipment and get it right.
On Carsomyr being cheesy, if you play my way, you appreciate every tiny bit of help. You die, you *restart*. Play that way and *then* go into a tough fight!

I never pick them up, only came across something in ToB where I had to use them to kill this creature but apart from that, I can’t see them being any use.

That effect is cast at level 9. Somehow, I doubt that a level 9 dispel is going to do a darned thing against a spell cast by a level 18 mage.
