Use of skills for classes

    I had this conversation with one of my dear fellow SP-ers about the use of certain skills for some of the classes. I understand the most of them.

    One is confusing me, though. I can imagine that some monks have an interest in the divine, but not all do. The use of Knowledge (Religion) for a Monk is not all that weird to me.
    But what about Knowledge (Arcana)? Do monks have an affinity with magical traditions? Cryptic phrases? Dragons? Arcane symbols? The only thing logical to me could be the Ancient Mysteries.

    Any idea? Or other questions perhaps?

    My guess is that some monasteries are keepers of old books and thus have access to knowledge concerning religion and arcana, but not "real-world" knowledge, such as geography (province of the ranger), local (of the rogue), or nobility (of the paladin).

    However, they don't have access to Knowledge (history), which, now that you say it, seems odd.

    Have I now become 'a fellow SP-er' to you? That's not what you told me last night! ;)

    -ahem- anyway. This is the response I got at PVP on the matter:

    "Arcana just isn't magic, it also covers other assorted weird crap. From the Skills section:

    Arcana (ancient mysteries, magic traditions, arcane symbols, cryptic phrases, constructs, dragons, magical beasts)

    The whole concept of a monk is tied into transcending beyond the limits of their mortal bodies and that really doesn't fit in with any of the other knowledges."

    Still, having at Know:Arcana makes it seem like they're scholared like wizards when it comes to magic. I find it a tad strange. But oh well.
