Your going to be sorry you asked:

St Patrick was a Protestant, is buried in DownPatrick N.Ireland, had taken part in lots of Pagan rituals and was friends with lots of Pagan highkings and Druids.

St Brigid - I am not sure why she was made a saint as she was as Pagan as they come and refused to convert to Christianity. She practiced herbal remedies, her cross was pagan and denounced the Catholic Church.

Guiness is not Irish (to my understanding). A site in Wales was considered for the Guiness plant before they decided to go with 'doirty dublin'!

Speaking of scorpions, the wind-scorpion, also known as the sunspider, has the strongest jaws - relative to size - of any animal on earth.

PEZ were originally peppermint flavored and were marketed to smokers. The German word for peppermint is PfeffErminZ. Take the first, middle, and last letters of the word and you get PEZ!

In order to drink, a Desert Crab needs to get out of his burrow at night, stay there in the cool air a while and get back inside. The his cool shield will get warm again and condesate. This is the water he drinks. Smart!

Quahog means 'hard clam' and, on an unrelated note, a wild boar produces 0.5 litres of semen per ejaculation.

Human nails are made of hair... or at least the same thing as it... and a rhino's horn is also made of hair so it grows back if it breaks or is cut off.

Ergonomic waterbeds are the latest must-have on the bovine circuit. The beds, listed at $175 each, are said to enhance cattle health by reducing joint damage. :D During WW2, american military types taught pigeons how to land on trucks and explode. They just couldn't get them to tell the difference between good trucks and enemy trucks. :shake:

The largest species of parrot in the world lives in New Zealand and is called a Kakapo and it is so big that it can't even fly (or say Polly wants a cracker).

The same protein that's responsible for division in bacteria also does the same thing in chloroplasts in plants and in mitochondria in your very own cells!

Might be very important stuff for me, since the protein in question is the main topic for my Master's thesis, but it's definitely useless info for everyone else here :shake:
