[IMG] i have tried asking this in more apropriate places but i have had no joy yet.

Basically, i contacted the manufacturer of a particular game of mine which is one of my favourites of all time (i wont say which one coz people will offer locations of patches etc but i have tried them all) and the manufacturer has said that the game WILL NOT work with the combination of windows xp and Geforce3 graphics card as the game wasnt designed to be used with a geforce3.

So, my plan is to use the Voodoo3 out of my old computer to solve the problem. But, i dont want to have to open my pc and change video cards/drivers each time i want to play the game.

The question is, is it possible to have 2 video cards installed at the same time and be able to choose which one you want to use on a particular occasion??

Thanks for any help anyone can give me (i dont know much about computers when it comes to this kind of problem) :)

It'd help if you said which game this is. As for Voodoo... You shouldn't have any problems sticking it in alongside the GeForce... From what I remember, Voodoo only does 3D acceleration and hasn't anything to do the regular 2D, so you need another card alongside anyway. So all you'd need to do is disable GeForce's 3D from being used in that game. But again, which game are you referring to?

I also heard about some site which offers a 3Dfx emulator so you can play games that only work with Voodoo cards even on the ones that are being used today. Can't remember the link though...

    [IMG] It's carmageddon 2.

    Voodoo3 does do 3D AND 2D, its voodoo2 that doesn't do 2D.

The problem i am concerned with is one that i have had previously when i had the voodoo3 and a 1mb 2D card installed at the same time in my old pc. The computer always sent video throught he 2D. Also, there may be conflicts between the two cards.

I was assuming i may need to set the voodoo as 2ndary card (however that is done) and maybe have a different boot sequence for each card (again, i have no idea how this would be done either).

But, like i said before, i have tried all the patches and hacks, etc and contacted Stainless games who said it is a known problem and there is no way round it. :bang: (Except for keeping my old spaceage pc set up for that game alone  )

Heh, I knew you'd say Carmageddon. And as I said, find that emulator. Any dedicated gaming/hardware site with forums should be able to help you.

To use a second video card you need to do a a few things.

    1. make sure the video card is a pci card, not an agp

    2. install both cards and there drivers

    3. have the one you are not using disabled when not in use

As a side note most os have problems with two video cards, so be prepared for trouble

Ha, Tal, what gave it away? My previous ramblings about it? Or the fact i mentioned the infamous Stainless? :D

Haven't found a 3DFX emulator yet but i think that sounds a better plan than putting in 2 cards at the moment. I just can't handle pc hardware conflicts.

    Cheers for the help.

No, the fact that the only game people bother to still play and only runs on 3dfx is Carmageddon. It was one of the prime examples on that emulator site. :heh:
