[IMG] Wow! That's all I can say...Wow! After hearing so much about the Band of Brothers series on HBO, I decided to pick it up! It was amazing!

It follows the men of "Easy" company in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army from their training until the end of WW2. It was just stunning! I won't go into details for anyone that hasn't seen it yet, but if you have the opportunity - Check it out!

Having never been a party to combat, this series literally takes you along for the entire European campaign. From D-Day, to Holland, to Bastogne, to the Ardennes, capping off the 101st's discovery of an extermination camp, to the capture of Hitler's Eagles' Nest.

It really makes you think about what people have to go through in war, how it affects them, changes them, and how they just went out and did what the needed to do. It kind of puts life into perspective, at least for me.

After watching the whole series, I thought to myself: It's funny about the things that get me down, or the shortcomings I think I may have. In reality, it's nothing compared what soldiers go through in wartime...Just making it through the day enough.

A sentimental and introspective Monday morning rant ;)

I couldn't agree with you more.

We have so much right now.

I gripe if I loose money, a business deal, or get into a fight with my wife.

I have a job (great, boring, underpaid ... even having a job is a blessing).

I have a beautiful daughter who is healthy.

    I have food to eat.

I have a country where I am free to practice my faith.

The blood of millions have been shed to perpetuate my freedom. Some Americans can only sit back, complain, and wonder what else the government can give them.

In just 2 generations ... the difference is huge.

    I think about my grandpa.

When he was younger, if every boy didn't bring down a deer, there wasn't enough meat to last the winter.

They lost the family farm in the depression. A local lumber yard gave his family wood to build a house. Since they couldn't pay, my grandpa worked in the lumberyard (starting in 5th grade) to pay off the debt. It was a major fight for him to go to high school.

When World War II began, he was a newly-wed, but left for the war anyways. He served in Patton's Third Army, was one of the first forces to enter Germany, and even liberated a concentration camp.

He's dead for seven years now, but I still have the Mauser he brought home, and the pride that he instilled. He was far from perfect, but he bled, killed and struggled to fight for the one thing I take for granted every day.

    Freedom

[IMG] Good Stuff! I don't know if my grandfather on my dad's side saw any combat, but my Mother's Father was a tail gunner in a B-17!

He used to tell me about flying daytime bombing missions...I couldn't imagine what that was like!

When I was in Russia, I also spoke to a few people that had survived the Siege of Leningrad. I couldn't imagine what it would have been to have been there! Some of the stories were gruesome! They regularly ate rats & tried to escape by moving across the Gulf of Finland. Wild!

Yeah, a wonderful joint effort by Home Box Office and the British Broadcasting Corporation. (Though it was mainly HBO). They showed the whole series over her last year. Now they're showing it again. I'm going to pick up the DvD set for X-mas. And to think war was probably even worse than BoB shows... Makes me shudder.

i have been watching the series on tv for about 9 weeks now. I truly enjoyed the show, I always getting scared when 'easy' has to go on patrol, as I hope no one gets shot.

Since the dvd release I have been saving up my pennies to afford it.
