I like Magic workers better because they have such a variety of spells, and you dont always have to see the same fighting (as with the warrior, the same hack and slash). Your thoughts?

One of the reasons I play mages most of the time is because I like having so many different spells at my disposal, so it doesn't get as dull as with warriors.
Maybe my affinity to flashy things has something to do with it too. ;)

Most of the time my main characters are fighter mages, though ocassionally I try something else for a main. Anyway, I like them as you get the best of both worlds. The best come with high level games (such as BG2) where you can have a proper dual class character. However, multi class fighter mages up to a certain level aren't bad at all if played right. My only preoblem with that is I can't play as a human then. So far my Kensai Mage I used in BG2 is my favorite character yet. Oh so nice :)

Incidently, I don't care for Sorcerer's that much. I much prefer mages and am quite sad to see that they aren't included in the new Pool of Radiance game. Sorcerers have their perks, but not enough to sway me from a dual classed mage. Incidently to anyone familiar with 3E rules: can sorcerers dual or multi class. I know they can't in BG2, what about PnP?

Yes, Sorcerors can multiclass, even with a Wizard. (Which is a very interesting combo, you get both spell sets.)

Crawl - In 3E essentially when you level up, you can choose what class to level up in... There are some restrictions about how far apart in level each of your classes can be, but other than that, anything goes.

Very interesting Blackthorne. I need to study up on my D&D rules and quite asking questions most folks know. Thanks for the answer though. Sounds very cool, so perhaps I can create a character I've been thinking about after all. Just not for ALFA as it would get me banned(heh, heh).

You can dual a sorcerer, for ex with a thief or fighter ???????? I never managed to do that, however, very well worth a try.

About warriors: I think hack´n´slash gets pretty dull ater a while, mages and especially thieves offer much more playing options and therefore are more fun to play, IMHO :)

[IMG] 3E has some very odd roolz about multi-classing. Some of them good and some not sooo good.

You can now have as many classes as u want... and be any combination if the DM allows it.

So your instance... you could have a

    4th Paladin/4th Bard/7th Rogue

not that this is very feasible... but completly legitimate. Weird or what.

And about Fighter/Mages... AAAAARGH... shuttup about them, and be more original for crying out loud. I hear of very few people actually trying a sorcerer but i have very good feelings about them... and just because you can't DUAL CLASS doesn't mean it's poor. I wish people would shuttup about DUAL CLASSING. BOOOORRRING!

Please. I should go off on something assanine like that. Boring? Whatever. If I enjoy fighter mages, I'll play them and I'll post as much and as often as I wish about them. I love them. Hahahahahah. What if I went off on you because you posted your love of single class characters. I prefer multi and dual classes. If you don't like it, sorry, can't help you there. So please tell me, oh master of role playing, what is so boring about fighter mages?

True, dc mc chars have more punch and are more fun to play, indifferent of you´re playing fighter-mage (cool), fighter-tief (great!!! :D ) or mage-thief.
Their widespread capabilities give you much more playing options than a usual single class char. The IMHO ultimate char - the fighter-mage-thief takes this to the extreme so that he´ll be only mediocre in every respect for leveling up too slow to be really interesting. And I never liked Bards.

BTW: AS I found out you CAN`T dual a sorcerer in BG-2 :( So you were talking about the p´n´p RPG 3E ?

Yeah, I just had an idea floating around in my head for a special fighter dualed to a sorcerer character. It could never be accomplished in BG2 I know, but I'd just like to know if it could be done for future reference and perhaps for my own enjoyment if NWN allows for special character creation of this type in it's game building feature. Howewever, I highly doubt this and I'm sure the idea will stay floating in my head or written down for some time without any use. Too bad. Incidently, I LOVE FIGHTER MAGES. Hahahahahhaha!!!

[IMG] I like the idea of char lile a "war-sorc" :D , able to achieve grandmastery and to cast spells wearing armor (at least elven-chain) - he would be some kinda steamroller.

However, steamrollers have some problems :D : Yesterday I started a mp-game with a friend playing a monk. I playd my trusted, venerable dc fighter-thief (6/*) and he thoroughly dominated the game, uups. My friend was a wee bit frustrated. However, he would only have noticed a difference in style had I played my dc fighter-mage (6/*) :D

    Well, I have a Half-orc Barbarian.
He can draw upon holy might and enrage himself, and when I have done that, he has 25 strength, 25 constitution and 23 dexterity, only titans in the pen&paper rpg have that. When I hit a guy this way, the minimum damage is 20, the maximum, I don't know, 60 or so?
So I wipe out all the evil in Amn witn this guy and I just love to see them slashed in little pieces!
But when I finish the game,
I think I will play it again as a cavalier, a undead hunter, or as a sorcerer, and I'm pretty much thinking of the latter.
But I'm only at chapter 3, looking for XP, 'cause my characters are only level 11, 12 and 13. But I think the sorcerer is cool too, but for now, I enjoy hacking and slashing evil with my trusty barbarian!

[IMG] Well I have to agree with most of you about dc or mc characters. The only thing I don't like about mages/sorcers is it seems like every game you can dominate with them until the later stages. BG, Icewind Dale, Diablo 1&2 (oops wrong board) always seem to have the main villians or high up villians really resistant to magic so you kind of rely on others in the end (except Diablo 1 & 2 where it is just you). Haven't got past ch. 3 in BG2 so I can't really comment on it yet.

urm... i am not taking the piss outta Multi or Dual Classed characters...

it is just the fact that everyone seems to go on and on about them!

i KNOW for a fact they are good and everything... and i agree with your points... but is just the fact that people tend to go with what works... rather than trying something different... i like to mess with all classes...

    i am even know trying a Cleric/Thief

    different...

There was a post earlier saying, that: IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT CHARACTER YOU PLAY, IT IS HOW YOU PLAY.
You name me ANY class and I will be able to build a killer party around it. That what is BG all about - there are various NPC's to fit any char and alignment and playing style.

I like to play with a multiplayer-group, so I can play both :) A fighter needs a mage to dispel, to break spells etc. And a mage needs a fighter to kill the enemy and protect the mage...

Or when you can only create one character (single player) you can play something between it, a fighter/mage. Problem: A fighter/mage needs a good strength, a good dex, a good constitution and the mage needs a high intelligence, so you have to roll very good, or choose for a low dex and use the gauntlets of dex.
