    For years historians have debated about the Trojan War, and Homer's epic masterpiece, _Iliad_. It would seem that one more piece of the puzzle has been uncovered with the discovery of Ajax's palace.

    Find a place where people could have lived and people probably have lived there. We were a nomadic species origionally and the Illiad is going back a LONG way.

    But not nearly far enough back to the point of nomadic people. Don't get me wrong - this site estimated to be about 3300 years old - so it's certainly ancient. But if you want to talk about when people started making permanent settlements and gave up a nomadic lifestyle you have to go back a lot further than 3300 years ago. In fact, the Babylonians and the Egyptians not only had permanent settlements but thriving civilizations over 2000 years before the estimated age of these remains. Of course, the mere fact that they have found the remains of large stone buildings certainly suggests that these people were anything but nomadic. It takes a long time to build huge stone buildings, and they certainly aren't easily transportable if you decide to move...

    How about the discovery of the ruined city of Troy in the late 80's? There was even evidence that the wall around the gate had been partially deconstructed around the time of the fall of the city.

    One of the layers of the historic Troy (there are eight IIRC) has suffered more or less the same fate as Homer's Troy. The royal palace and tombs in Mykenes more or less fit the story. It was probably a real conflict wrapped up in magic, mythology and stuff.
