[IMG] I am trying to open the seals and I can't seem to beat these creatures, There is a beholder and a few other different creatures. I can't even kill one of them before they demolish me. Help!!!! These are harder than the dragon! I will accept a spoiler.

Who is in your party? What have you tried?

Make sure your party is buffed out. Use every buffing spell you can. Also don't be afraid to use any wands that you've got - especially wands of spell striking. The marileth (snake woman) is immune to normal weapons and casts stoneskin and protection from magical weapons as soon as she spawns in. The beholder also casts stoneskin right away.

The first thing I do is focus on taking out the alu-fiend and the huntress. The alu-fiend will continually try to charm the party so unless you've cast chaotic commands on everyone, you run the risk of being attacked by your own party members. The huntress keeps herself at a distance and takes shots at everyone with Taralash (+4 bow). She's fast with a bow, but not nearly as good in melee. Once they are taken out, I go after the monk and the marileth. I try to have my mage keep knocking out spell protections -- especially against the marileth. She seems to have an infinite number of stoneskins. IIRC, her swords do poison damage and can level drain. I have my mage also slowly weaken the beholder with magic missile, chromatic orb, Melf's Minute Meteors and the like.

Once those two are gone, the beholder goes down pretty quickly. Keep those potions and healing spells ready because you will definitely need them and often.

That is a tough battle to get through, but with the right party mix, you'll get through it.

No mods. I am playing with Minsc, Jaheira, Edwin, Valygar and Imoen. I have all the keys and opened a seal and am confronted by Nalmissra, Y'tossi, Hive mother, Xei Win Toh, Ameralis Zauviir and The Huntress. I have tried to hide in one room and lead one enemy in at a time but they all always come together.

And what character are you? You've got a decent party, except you lack a cleric.

So, no clerical spells to buff you up. Pity. But you have 4 good fighting characters, which should make up for it. And two mages. Not bad.

I did that part again a few days ago. I placed Nalia farther North, Anomen with the amulet protecting from draining where Nalmissra appears (other than the clerical amulet, he was used only as a tank, or maybe a heal or two), my paladin and Jaheira (also tank only, if one or two heals) where the wretched beholder spawns, Minsc where the druid pops up and Imoen farther South. The mages started casting time stop immediately and the rest started attacking in melee. Nalia had the robe of Vecna, so she finished earlier than Imoen. She cast breach on Nalmissra and she was piece of cake for Anomen without her protections. She also threw two dragon breaths in, centred nicely to hit so many enemies as possible. Imoen cast breach on the beholder and also threw two dragon breaths in, this time targetting different opponents. The battle was nearly over, it was just plain stabbing, except for Imoen and Nalia throwing chromatic orbs where possible (it kills instantly with some luck). I made one mistake you shouldn't repeat - I let go of Nalmissra and ordered Anomen to attack the beholder. She healed herself and caused some trouble charming my party members.

In your case I would suggest Imoen and Edwin acting as my Nalia and Imoen, and the other four roles are just tanks. Choose them as you like.

Note: the genius isn't that hard. Its immunity won't last if you get four tanks kick him soundly ;)

Also what level are your characters. If you are doing it with a party that just start TOB or is in SOA still it will be alot more difficult.

You should know where they're going to appear by now. Cast some skull traps. Summon some assistance (planetar, elemental prince, shambling mounds, Mordenkainen's swords). Concentrate on enemies one at a time - I reckon that Hive Mother is most dangerous assuming she has stuff like Imprisonment (I try not to give them the time to cast it) - and be ready with breaches. Use your summons to buy time, if not actually to destroy anybody.

[IMG] Yeah! That battle was freakin hard! For real!

When I successfully destroyed them (me a Pally, Minsc, Jaheira, Anomen, Aarie, and Immy), I had my guys strategically at the south of the screen, buffed up with Chant, Bless, Protection from Evil 10radius, Chaotic Commands, summoned Zalman Rul, a good Deva, and a Stone Golem, and all my fighters had speed boots.

My Pally went and turned the thing that summons them, quickly ran to the other side (I'm not stayin' near that level-drainin' wench Nalmissra!) and fought the drow cleric/druid (the Huntress was attacking me from afar, but couldn't do any damage vs. my bad self! :D ), the Stone Golem went after the kensai with Minsc shootin arrows at her, Deva and Zalman went after the Hive Mother, Jaheira throwin +4 bullets at the Hive Mother, Immy breachin' the Hive Mother, and Aarie and Anomen throwin' Greater Malison's and Holy Smites for what they're worth.

Fortunately, the Kensai and the Hive Mother were the 1st and 2nd (respectively) to fall, and then had Anomen with the Runehammer and Zalman go after the wench Nalmissra, Deva, Minsc and Jaheira after the marileth, and after awhile they all dropped......Hard fight for real!

I have 3 clerics in my party. You really need at least one (with Chant, Bless, a good number of Chaotic Commands, and Protection from Evil 10radius) and some good summons.

I'll just weigh in and say that one thing that can make a fight like this easier is if you have a thief of some sort, or a bard, who can set up some of those righteous spike traps. Buffing is good, as has been mentioned frequently, but summoning is also a good idea. You've got Jaheira to summon some cool elementals, and Edwin is of course a conjuror -- if he is of high enough level, he cal also summon in a planetar or two, which makes life easier on you. Nalia can do the same thing. Some fodder (as one fellow used to call it, a meatshield) is always helpful.

this battle is very challenging - and dare i say, more difficult than demogorgon

i took out the marilith first, then the hive mother

make sure you have wands of pierce magic/breach ready - save spell slots for more important spells like lower resistance, etc

cast chaotic commands, summons planetars, devas, elementals, skeleton warriors, anything! spread your guys out before you turn the key

Please ignore my suggestion to use skull traps - all of these bunch are 75% magic resistant or greater apart from Xei Win Toh (and even she is 35% magic resistant). Given your party composition, summons are still your best option.

Neeraj, a meatshiled is something you summon in so it can soak up damage, thus buying you time to prep a few spells ir get a few shots in. In the case of the battle under discussion here, summoning in anything with a lower than 7th level spell, you know for a fact that the creature you are summoning will a) not be able to deal much damage to these guys and b) will last about 3 rounds at best before being obliterated. But, when the good summons are used up, this is what you turn to to buy time . . .

Ahh, memories of the meat-shield armies of BG. Monster summon 3 cast at Sarevok then pelt at him with arrows, bolts, sling stones and even a steel-toe boot from the safety behind your horde of hobgoblins/orgilions.
