Weapon types that you just don't ever use

I must admit I've been bored and looking through shadowkeeper lately and I can't help but feel like I am missing out. Quite simply, there a lot of weapon types I pretty much never use. The ones I don't, or rarely use:

    -Maces
    -Daggers
    -Short Swords
-Long Swords(yes I really do rarely use them, there aren't many good top end ones outside of Blackrazor and I never play evil really)

I am particularly intrigued by Mace, since Stormstar +5 looks like quite a powerful weapon. I am thinking of making an Undead Hunter at some point and dualwielding Stormstar +5/Crom Fayer or something to that effect. Having the mace of disruption +2 would also be truly amusing when facing undead as an Undead Hunter. Talk about overkill.

So anyways, what do you folks rarely use?

-Clubs: Don't mess around with me or I'll dent your armor!
-Spears: Look, there's a dragon! Let's go and poke it with a sharp stick :D
-Darts: I can think only recreational use for these.

Halberds. I can find a use for most other weapons, but no characters really seem to specialize in halberds except for Sarevok IIRC, but then he's much cooler with a 2H sword. Yeah, I know Wave is wonderful, but still...never use it.

Maces are great - don't know how you get by without the Mace of Disruption. Obviously you don't use Anomen or Mazzy much. :p

Fists. Although pounding things until they collapse can be fun. Last time I did pummel anyone was when Noober kept hassling my party in Nashkel. Good times.

I do use Anomen a bit. I usually just have him use the Flail of Ages and Crom Faeyr, though.

I guess I just haven't ever really felt I needed the Mace of Disruption, but I do want to try it because it seems really good.

I've used all types of weapons -- they all have their strengths and uses.

As far as halberds are concerned ... Ravager (+6) is simply the most deadly weapon in the game. Nothing else even comes close. I always have someone who can use Ravager (unless I'm playing solo).

Daggers and darts are very useful if your protagonist is a mage. Darts have an excellent rate of fire per round, and magical ones can do all sort of nasty things to enemies, such as poisoning, stunning, etc. Crimson dart+3 is very easy to reach and is a useful back up weapon for an aspiring mage. Slings are given to clerics most of the time. (and besides they are for sissies! )

I never use crossbows, shortbows are better for thief NPCs and I give the proficiency to Jan ASAP. Keldorn can use crossbows, though he would be much more useful swinging Hallowed Redeemer or even better, Holy Avenger!

Impaler Spear is a very damaging weapon in the hands of anyone, I am a big fan of spear thrusting Jaheira!

I agree halberds are rather dull until you get Ravager +6, which, IMHO, is one of the most dangerous weapons in the game.

Mace of Disruption +2 is the definitive anti-undead weapon in the SoA part of the game. It fades into the background with all of the +5/+6 weapons you get in ToB but until then it's incredibly useful, especially considering how many vampire fights are in the game. I never have a character that has it at all times, but whenever high level undead appear it instantly makes it into the hands of my tank.

I often play CHARNAME as a fighter with five pips in halberds (I usually work up 2 hander swords first, and then switch to hallys later. Dragon's Breath is decent, and Wave Blade is awesome. Ravager, though is in a class of its own).

If I'm playing a different class then I'll work up Sarevok's proficiencies and give him Ravager. Unfortunately the best 2 hander sword (enhanced Gram) isn't available until right at the end of ToB, so Ravager makes more sense (although his enhanced Chaos Sword is nice, if you are playing with Ascension).

I hardly ever use clubs (only time I ever do is with Jaheira, if she's dual-wielding. But often I'll give her spears. And she's such a bossy woman I don't take her more than once in a blue moon).

Daggers - yes on a mage - I quite often have the party mage use Firetooth. Staff of the Magi and Staff of the Ram are nice but I don't want my mages involved in melee because they die that way. Let them have a ranged weapon if they run out of spells or I can't be bothered to administrate them. Imoen usually ends up with the Gesen bow - Edwin gets a throwing dagger or a sling, usually.

Darts - no. Even the Crimson Dart, though useful, isn't as good as the best throwin dagger at that point in the game, so I just sell it.

Long Swords - no, I generally don't use them. Not even Equaliser. If I'm using Valygar I'll generally have him dual wield Celestial Fury and Belm in SoA. He's a dervish of destruction with those two. All my other fighters generally get two handed weapons of some sort.

Short Swords - very occassionally I'll give one to Imoen, but more often than not she'll get Gesen's bow plus a staff.

I use all weapons except for slings, IMO they just do not jump out damage wise. I realize that in real life they are actualy pretty darn dangerous in the hands of a experienced user but in BG2 SoA/ToB...no thank you i'll pass.

I second Halberds. My PC's are usually some kind of Thief, Cleric or Mage and can't use them. I'd have to recruit Mazzy and force her into Halberds if I ever wanted to use them but Mazzy almost never makes it into the final cast. Oh, I do carry the Wave all the way to the Fire Giant Temple occasionally but then simply forget to use it. It's a shame, really.

Hmm... it's not that I don't use them, but I rarely use slings and crossbows (I'm lousy with non-arrow ammunition management and tend to run out of it mid-fight :p ). Oh, and darts - I avoid those.

As for melee ones - anything goes. I like clubs and halberds less then others, but Gnasher and later on Ravager are usually around.

I almost always use Short Swords, Katanas, Short Bows, Slings, Two-Handed Swords and Long Swords. Generally speaking:

    Mages - Quarterstaff/Dagger + Sling.
    Fighters - Two-Handed Sword + Long Sword/Katana.
    Thieves - Short Sword/Dagger/Katana/Short Bow.
    Clerics - Mace/Warhammer + Sling.

I (almost) never use Clubs, Halberds, Spears. I've never been anyone for spears nor clubs. I sometimes give Keldorn/Sarevok Halberds as second weapon, but when The Silver Sword and Carsomyr is around, there's really no point except if you don't want to powergame or just try something diffrent.

    I don't use:
    Daggers

    Darts

    Axes
(throwing or otherwise, though the undead killing throwing axe I keep)

    Quarterstaves
(as actual melée weapons that is, save for backstab fun... lol... though I might use them as melée weapons for my mage/cleric for RP reasons, can't imagine him using a mace or flail...)

    Short Swords
(such a redundant weapon class in BG games, what with the backstab criteria and all)

    Clubs
(except if I'm not playing solo, which is a rare occurrence these days anyway. but I'll still be more likely to give spears to my druids)

    Halberds
(okay, I have used them before, and if there are fighters in my party I usually spec one in halberds. but they shall forever remain an "exotic" weapon and rarely used)

    Slings

Other than that, pretty much everything else sees regular use.

Spears, clubs, crossbows, short swords, daggers, staves...can be hard to justify at certain points, dear friends.

The Icewind sling of Everard is useful to hit anything, and the returning Crimson Dart is also powerful enough to hit most targets. Very useful for characters who have dualled to a mage and are biding their time until they reactivate their old class.

Halberds seem to be wonderful weapons for paladins before they get Carsomyr...also quite good for barbarians who don't have a good two-handed sword, though the Spider's Bane is a marvelous workman's weapon for a good long while...

    Funny topic :)

I Never use cross bows i never liked the concept somehow...

I rarely use staffs, but other than that I second that most of the weapons have their pros and cons.
