I've played numerous games of BG2 and agree that it is the best RPG of the year. I started off with an imported character from BG1 who was a pure FIGHTER -enjoyed playing him tremendously. I then played my fearsome MONK who I thought would be my most powerful character that I could play in BG2. After that I played a Fighter/Thief. I skipped several quests simply because my party was EVIL and many quests are "goody goody heroic" quests. So I finished that game fast. Something like 39 days (not real days, days in the game)

I finished up with my Fighter/Cleric who actually proved to be my most powerful character. With a -16AC and 5 pts in Hammer's he delivered big damage with 3 attacks. But his most devastating abilities were found in TURNING UNDEAD and a simple spell –the 3rd level Holy Smite. With a high enough wisdom you can get about 8 of those or so. It only does 1-4/lvl but after 15th level it could wipe out some entire groups and became even more devastating at later levels. He finished with almost 3/4 of the entire game kills.

He could barely be touched. It was as if he was a Holy Avatar of Righteousness. Smiting all that was Evil and Corrupt.

Ahhhh, I look forward to Icewind Dale's expansion The Heart of Winter early next year. Who knows? I may 'dust off' BG2 for one more round before that release hit's the stores!

The Cleric ability TURNING is the most underated ability. There are so many Skeleton Warriors, Shades, Wraiths, Vampires, etc that are in this game. After 18th level the only Undead that I did not TURN was Bohdi(I don't know what the Grimwarder's are... but they didn't turn either. They may be some lower plane creature?...). And what I mean by TURN, I mean TURN INTO DUST. At lower levels my TURNING ability sent lots of Undead into retreat. But at higher levels my TURNING ability destroyed undead in the first round of melee contact.

[IMG] Underrated? Ha! I rate the Clerical turning ability very highly :) I've used it extensively in all three Black Isle games I've played... Love it. Can't get enough of it. Always looking for a pure Cleric to do it. (Didn't get one in BG2... Aerie was the best I could do; not to say that was bad...)

So it seems as if the mighty Draco is leaving the board, and the world of butt-kicking for goodnes...

indeed a shame, I must say. It has been a pleasure serving under you!

I think I will have to start the game as a fighter/cleric next time, he will be named Draco jr.

no really, hope you will find time to stop by once in a while.

    regards from Denmark

Ps: what allignment do you recommend for the fighter/cleric.

Well Draco, I hope you'll be around for a while still. If not sooner, then when HoW is released. ;)
IWD forums will be starting to see more traffic then again.

Cancerman: Make him of any good alignment if you want to destroy undead with turning, or any evil if you want to control them and use them to fight your enemies. ;)

    P.S.
The chatroom will be going live today. Drop by. ;)

Of course I'll still be around! Taluntain you and Sylvus do a great job with this board. I know I've mentioned it in passing posts but REALLY, your hard work is very noticeable. I hope more of the board members realize this when comparing other boards out there on the WEB.

I only mentioned that I was retiring BG2 (...for now that is) - not that I'm retiring! Geez. I hope I didn't make it sound like that. Of course I'm checking your other Forums here as well and will always, ahem... contribute my STRONG opinions. As one of my friends calls me (due to my STRONG OPINIONS), "The Cerebral Bully" it will be... necessary for me to make an occasional post here and there! :)

Oh yes for the Cleric, choose GOOD all the way. Lawful Good and stay at 20REP throughout the game. If you possibly can... have a high Charisma for the few 'interactive dialogues' in the game & law abiding 'purchases' that you'll need. Because of course stealing is out of the question if your are LAWFUL... GOOD. Create him as a Fighter and Dual him over immediately (when Imoen frees you)if you want to get those Cleric level's ramped up enough to turn those nasty Vampires that spawn at night in the city. Also you'll most likely be high enough level to turn most of the Shade Lord 'undeads' (by the time you get to that quest)if you Dual over right after Imoen frees you in the dungeon. -don't forget about 'Holy Smite'...enjoy :)

All these nice words and so close to the holidays too! I'm sure you'll be getting a big huge gift for those words too! Hehe.

Sorcerer and I are really no different than all of you posters when it boils down to it. We're fans of the Forgotten Realms, D&D and the games that come out just like everyone else. The only noticable difference would be providing a service to come and enjoy all the comments made by everyone.

    Thanks again!

Ah! Such modesty! Very commendable ;)

But what you downplay as "the only noticable difference" is hardly the minor contribution you are making it out to be.

Both of you invest a lot of time and effort to make this community the great place it is, and I think I speak for all of us here when I say that we really appreciate all the hard work that goes into this place! :) Keep up the good work!

Well I uninstalled the game over the weekend and... I think I'm having 'withdrawal' symptoms! Mercy! What am I gonna do? Well I guess I can cozy up with the girlfriend more these days.. ‘tis the 'season'! Nahhh, a guy needs his computer games!

So I'll have to find something else. I had talked 3 or 4 of my friends into buying BG2 -none of them finished 1 game. They are ALL addicted to Everquest. I tried it... but it never 'clicked' for me. So that will be a purchase that I won’t be making! Oh well, maybe I can revisit IWD or something.

[IMG] Expansion pack for IWD out in the next few weeks remember.
IWD has a completly new crew (no Minsc) and you can play all 6 characters at once without having to play multiplayer.
I liked it but BG2 came out too soon after that I never completed it.

Cancerman, you may wish to check the IWD forums as well as the Walkthru that Sylvus did for that release. I for one enjoyed it immensly. There are some areas that are 'flooded' with encounters and the storyling and presentation are well done. It's very much worth your time to check it out. Besides, the next release from Interplay/Bioware/Black Isle for these series will be for IceWind Dale. So you may as well get familiar with it!

Although this isn't the IWD forum, I must say Cancerman that IWD is a very enjoyable game and one that would definatly be worth playing over the holidays. It's quick, in your face style of game that stands out on its own against BG2.

Now BG2 is a great game, it's one of those games you can not play for a week or so and know you can come back for lots of adventures, dialog, etc when you have the time for it. With IWD, areas fly by in a few hours and a lot of it is exploring passages, battling tough creatures and finding wonderful magical items (randomly placed too).

I can't wait to play the expansion with my characters, that I saved this time because I lost my BG characters and wasn't going to make the same mistake twice ;)

I suggest you give it a shot.

    Syl...
