There are a couple of Demons close to it, but not with that wicked hold/slow death ability it had. The master of thralls can hold you, but that's it.

None of the Demons in BGII even come close to being as almighty as the Tarrsque for one thing theres the size

O.K., maybe not close to it. Let me rephrase. There are a couple of bad ass demons in the game and a few lesser demons scattered about. However, perhaps if your party was at higher levels in BG1, the Tarresque wouldn't seem so almighty. The best thing it had going for it was it's death stare and a lot of HP. It was big, and it was nasty, but it didn't deal a ton of damage otherwise. Once I figured out a stategy for killing it, it was not a problem. The biggest problem was killing all those damn mages around it first before I sunk my teeth into it.

Not to jump on anyone's case, but the Tarrasque isn't a demon.

Hey Shura, if Sylvus doesn't feel like it ;), I can. Did you want demons or devils listed?

[IMG] Wow, that's cool eternal. Fiends have a long and varied history, so I don't think the generic Tanarr'i face they were given in Baldur's Gate 2 did them justice.

Could you list ALL of the most famous fiends? Also, could you talk a little about the Grey Wastes and if it's related to Baator?

Also, do you know what kind of Tanarr'i Aec Letec was? I thought it was a dog-faced Glabrezu but after seeing the wuss in the Umar Ruins I'm not so sure any more.

First off, the Grey Wastes and Baator are 2 different planes completely. Not much has been published about the Grey Wastes, other than some Gods+goddesses reside there from the FR pantheon. I beleive the Grey wastes is the plane that the undead (or dead) class of gods rule over (ie Cyric, Myrkul). But maybe someone else can clearify that...

On the other hand, Baator is probably the closest representation to what hell is (literally). It is setup in D&D and is similar to Dante's writings with it consisting of 9 layers. Some gods take up residence there, but Hell is also ruled by Asmodeus who was a powerful Archon until he committed some act against the good Gods and he was pushed from heaven or the upper planes. The 9th layer (called the serpents coil) is where he actually landed after his fall and thus, where he resides.

And of course, I will not forget to mention the Blood War. The infamous war that has been going on for ages between the Devils of Baator and the Demons of the Abyss (this is where demonkind make home)

    Demons (Tanar'ri):
    Least: dretch, manes, rutterkin
    Lessor: Alu-fiend, bar-Igura, cambion, succubus
    Greater: BaBau, chasme, nabassu
True: balor, glabrezu, hezrou, marilith, nalfeshnee, vrock
    Guardian: molydeus

    Devils (Baatezu):
    Least: nupperibo, spinagon
Lesser: Abashai, barbazu, erinyes, hammatula, osyluth
    Greater: amnizu, cornugon, gelugon,
    pit fiend

A few side notes, the first being that if you played Tales of the Sword coast, the devil that you fought in Ulgoth's beard was an Abishai (there are 3 classifications of them). All fiends in the game (much like dragons) were played down very much. According to 2nd edition exp., pit fiends are worth 57,500 points and balors are worth 47,000 exp. It is probably just really hard for the game developers to program in all their special attacks. Like pit fiends, who can attack 6 times in one round and divide the attack against different opponets. Also, The Tarrasque is a huge monstrosity of a creature that is somewhat magical, but it doesn't have anything to do with the Lower planes (hell&abyss). But just for you Tarrasque lovers, a tarasque is worth 107,000 exp. points (quite a damn lot).

Rakanishu: I beleive you are correct about Aec Letec. Like I said earlier, fiends in the game are seriously played down. I would try to go through more famous fiends, but many of the authors don't really discuss them and the planes much because it is something that is still being shaped or created. There are a few in some books, but not too many from what I can recall. Now, D&D used to publish stuff about famous underworld characters that you could use in your campaigns, but they are hard to find.

    Sorry for being so long-winded....

The only thing about ALL the demons in BG2 is they ALL use that same f'ing model. IT'S PANTZ

a glabrezu is meant to have a wolves head with pincers coming from its sides and look generally nasty... and without wings... yet they use the same model. And the Balor......

Grrrr... and at the end they use the Pit Fiend Model for Balors and Tanarr'ii models for the Glabrezu! AAARGH make up your minds! They shoulda done speparate models for the demons... seems as they are some of the nastiest fights in the game... well... hmmm... that's debatable actually...

[IMG] All you deamons & devils lovers should try Planescape: Torment, if you haven't already. You won't find another game so chock full of them with very cool animations to boot. Plus you spend quite a lot of the game in Hell(ish) places. Tanar'ri and Baatezu are almost common in the game.
Excellent stuff for anyone interested. Plus there's a ton of story and details in the game, so even a total newbie will know something about the Blood War and similar subjects once you're done with the game.

[IMG] Yeah, nothing there is very little comparative to Tarrasque period, especially not pit fiends or any baatezu.

A Wyrm, MAYBE, on a good day with the wind blowing at exactly 10 degrees due east at noon, but even then, Tarrasque would just reappear after time.

I once read an online text where a D&D group of only 3 players, playing as Balors attempting to conquer a Realm, attacked Tarrasque who was guarding a great relic of power. Needless to say, the Balors retreated, limping and licking their wounds. This coming from 3 BALORS!

I don't know, if you were to get a great wyrm a few centuries old I don't think it would have any problem with a tarrasque.
