I'm going to give that no reloads thing another shot, but this time I will only start in BG2. I am trying to figure out the ways characters can be instantly killed. Please help me formulate a list here. My theory is that I can easily put together a party of 5 NPCs to handle all of the game, but I want to make a Protagonist that is most likely to avoid instant death.

    I can think of:

Charm (I'm pretty sure the Protagonist getting charmed instantly ends the game)
    Imprisonment

    TIA

    Instant death spells :p

And I've had my character charmed without getting a game over. They just sit there & you have control of your other party members, it can easily be dispelled.

If you're going the solo route, then Charm does indeed force a reload. I believe if you have a party, it does not.

I think Maze does, if you are solo (never tried, but I am assuming...).

Being stoned without having a Stone->Flesh scroll is a quick way to be chunked.

Or are you looking for non-death ways of losing?

IIRC Saber's right on maze. Had my party killed once and my PC mazed and that was game over.

Then there's the remote chance of getting chunked by a green-slime poisoning...

    Humm...level and stats drainages...although they're not exactly insta-deaths...

I'm pretty sure War Nerve is correct on the Charm spell.

There are a couple of traps, but I assume that you know well enough not to go rushing into them.

Iku-Turso's point on Level Drain is a good one- if things don't go your way during a Vampire attack, it is possible that you'll lose a character due to chunkification.

Maze doesn't end the game. You get put somewhere else for so many rounds. Imprisonment, otoh, will end the game if the PC gets caught.

Maze ends the game if you have noone left. So a solo character getting Mazed will end it, but if you've got a full party and the PC gets mazed you can just wait it out.

Same with Charm, Domination, and so on. I think the point is that, if your PC is still alive but you lose control over him, and all other NPCs are incapacitated, then it's game over.
