What determines how many traps one gets?

I remember once leveling up and putting my points into something other than setting traps and not getting the message that I got another trap ability. I reloaded and put points into traps and I got the message that I'd gained a Set Snare ability. But it doesn't always work like this. The next several levels and 50 points in traps have not netted me any more Set Snare abilities. Just how does this work? Is it determined by level or by trap skill or a combination? Thanks...

Err depends if you are a bounty hunter or not. The more points you put in the more damage it will do and more chance of success. If you are a bounty hunter, your snare will make Maze spells at higher levels and something else to but you don't gain any new types of traps or abilities.

Err or I think as a bounty hunter you will have both normal traps and special traps but I can't be certain.

Well, at level 39 and with a set trap skill of 265, my swashbuckler only had 6 traps a day. I think skill points count up until that point. But don't worry, once you max out your regular traps per day, by that point you get the HLA traps, which are awesome.

IIRC the trap gains are set in stone, there is no random chance of getting them.

Doesn't it roll over after 255, so that 265 is really 10? Could you successfully set traps with that character?

In TOB, your limit of snares per location is 6. If you are a bounty hunter and you choose high powered snares at high levels, your limit is 10 traps per day at level 39.
