What do you think about solo Fighter/Assassin (Hacked with shadowkeeper)

[IMG] I used to have TOB, until my idiot cousin decided it was a frisbee, but nevertheless, I was about to start a solo game with a Fighter/Assassin Hacked by shadowkeeper to allow fighter to be the first class.(I will start it after christmas) Checking the 'Important and Maximum levels while dual-classing' I discovered one interesting dualclass,

    A Fighter-25/Assassin- 27

I therefore began to think, HUH? This has got to be one of the MOST powerful classes available. It, of course will be tough when I dual-class, how so? How could a level 1 assassin survive in a place meant for a level 25 fighter? Could it?

But imagine the final result... A TANK that is dual wielding Quietus+4(offhand) and the crom fayer(main hand) (sp?), AND,

An 8X BACKSTAB WITH 25 STRENGTH!

The main question is "Would it be possible to live through the 'I just dual-classed and am level 1" phase alive and alone?

    OR

Would it be better to have a duet so I can have a sorcerer to help me out all the time?

Why would you want that though? You won't get those last assassin levels to the end of the game. Untill then it will be boring and a pain. Plus you will get almost no HLA's. if you can do a fighter/assassin multiclass, that would probaly be more productive.

And you won't be backstabbing anyone with Crom in your main hand. It's not a thief weapon. I think you meant the other way around.

Besides - cheating sucks the fun out of the game. Suck suck suck.

A few things you should realise first.
You can not backstab with a warhammer, you can only backstab with the weapons a (pure) thief can use. Make Crom your off-hand and wield a longsword, katana, scimitar or shortsword as your primary.

Why dual class? Why not be a dwarf fighter/assassin and enjoy a 19 CON to help you tank it? This way you also get the backstab ability when you're in the first few stages of the game and you don't have to worry about having a crappy THAC0 at any stage.

If you want to go for a duo take Aerie along and enjoy her clerical and arcane spells (robe of venca + amulet of power = fastest spellcaster ever) plus a cute romance if you get the any-race-romance mod.

D'oh! How stupid of me! I meant them to be switched around! *goes to edit*

Of course! I WANT a challenge.
And of course I would like to have revenge on the final battle in ascention... I had to take the mod off to be able to win with my LAST solo game.

I have an idea, A half-orc Fighter/Assassin! But the thing would be I'd have to have changed the levels because it would not level out to 25/27, you might think it's not a big deal, but I NEED 25/27 because of the extra thief points AND because I need to have as much XP as possible for myself.

And? I played through it ALL already, I am simply trying to find an interesting new challenge to get, its not like I'm editing all my stats to 25 and giving myself 3245 potions of extra healing (I tried it once, it was so funny that a str 25 barbarian could not carry the potions)

Let me make one thing clear, I HATE to memorise scrolls. I have ever since ALL my ninth level scrolls i'd been saving for so long failed to be copied by a 30th level mage with 20 int! (18+1 from bg1 tome and 1 from the watchers keep)

From then on I decided that sorcerers own wizard's smelly arses.
So as much as I liked aerie, she will have to wait for my NEXT playthrough... I'd rather a sorcerer with staff of the magi, robe of vecna and amulet or power that has both the ring of acuity and the ring of wizardry any day.

Why would you need to backstab 8x with 25 STR?
7x with 22STR is not enough? What kind of monsters has more than 200HP? Not too much i think.

I am playing usually solo thiefs, F/T, F/M/T, A and K/T(dual) - i dont like memorizing spells, and sleep too. These are good enough i think.

If you insist the F/A, the best choice is dualling at level 13, this is a ballanced one, you will have later 4 attack per round with the Gauntlets, what gives you +1/2 i think...
Thiefs HLAs are much better than the figters. Just focus on the traps, and there wont be any resist. You can poison the normal trap too...
The traps goes over the MR resistance. I always kill liches this way.

Weapons: the staff of magi and the celestial fury combination is the best i think. If you are powergaming, do it well! You will see, no need to have 8x backstab, to be able hide again is much more important(staff of magi). With single weapon the critical's chance is doubled also. A good katana can help a lot in the damage.

By the way the STR bounus is NOT multiplied... So dual wielding has no any sense in case of a thief.

This might be a little off-topic, but can you really multi-class a character with class kits? Meaning that fighter/assassin really is possible instead of fighter/thief. I tried to make Kensai/Assassin yesterday, but I got only Fighter/Thief. How will I get to apply those class kits on multi-class character?

The special kits in the save files are just an extension beside the normal class. You can make a multi class F/A, or a K/T, and you can make a dual class F/A or K/T too.

You can select only one kit, in case of F/M/T too. But only one. So K/A is impossibile.

In case of a dual class this is...hmmm...normal. But adding a kit for multi class... that is cheating.

[IMG] Why not use a regular multiclass Fighter/Thief? You'll get HLA's earlier and can always choose between both figther and thief HLA's.
The higher backstab mod an assassin has is not of much use. IMO the only reason for taking an assassin is for the poison.

I hate using poision. To me winning a battle is putting the nasties down as quickly as possible. Not waiting for the icky green stuff to work. Why poision something when you can just hit it twice and have the same effect?

Because a spellcaster getting damaged 1 or 2 hitpoints every second by an assassin's poison isn't going to get a spell off, period. THAT'S why poison is good - not because you would sit around and wait for someone to die one HP at a time.

And, when you poison Arrows Of Biting and start launching them all over the place with a Tuigan Bow... gotta love the Assassin!

Yeah, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, nothing beats a good assassin

    Well...maybe a prepared mage....
or a good fighter, or another assassin, or something else...

    That's beside the point :D

Arrows of Fireball or Arrows of Dispelling + Poison weapon is a more deadly combination.

Fighter-Assassins will only become powerful for a time far shorter and far less frequently than Blades. (And far more later)
By all accounts, the Blade is a better overall except for the Fighter/Assassin's having better thieving skills.

But if you're looking for a challenge, then I guess he's the better choice.
