What happens to extra HLAs?

    LEts say..when the fighter reaches level 40, he has accumulated 20 HLA points all together. But there are only 8 skills to choose from. Is there more than one level for each HLA? Sort of like a "Level 3 Whirlwind"?

    No level 3 whirlwind, but you can repeatedly pick greater whirlwind at each level up.

    Which thief HLAs have more than one level? And are the time, spike, and fireball traps increased by the thief's trap ability or amount of HLA points you put into them?

    You can select multiple trap setting HLAs for your thief. They do not increase in level; they are set (20d6 for spike traps, for example). Use Any Item can only be selected once; same for Improved Bard Song for bards. I believe the other stuff (assassination, evasion/greater evasion, etc) can also be selected multiple times, but I always spent all my HLAs in trap setting so I am not 100% certain.

    So does anyone know if you need to set skill points into set trap for better (more chance) HLA traps?

    Of course, for a mage or sorcerer, the extra HLA points are wasted. You cannot select any of the skills more than once.
