Have you had those special cravings that you know are not good for you? Did you have the urge to get rid of them? Did you succeed quitting them permanently, or are you still hanging on to them, but not addicted to them anymore?

For instance: I've quit smoking. It never was an actual ongoing habit with me, but I still bought and smoked some cigarettes and cigars ever so often. Not anymore.

In the rare case that someone offers me a cigarette or a cigar for that matter, I'm not going to object. But I'll make my case clear that I'm not going to offer the person any cigs back, since I'm not buing them anymore. Hypocrisy? Maybe little, but my goal isn't to be holier than thou. And soon enough they'll learn not to offer me any of those cancer rolls. Consider this a transitional phase, if you like.

So what have you quit, or are you still struggling with it?

I stopped smoking cigarettes for 2yrs, 8mos, 13days and 2hrs. More monetary than health reasons. I scream at kids smoking at the mall and need to be restrained from jumping out, stealing the cig and reminding them smoking is bad. ;) I get angry at seeing half smoked butts lying on the ground. If someone offered me a smoke right now, I'd take it.

Cream puffs. Yeah, that's right, cream puffs. I love cream puffs, especially homemade ones with chocolate pudding inside. :yum: But, thankfully, they take a while to mix and bake. And I'm pretty lazy. Otherwise, I will eat any and all in the house and have gone on binges by making 4 batches in one day and eating every last one. Of course, the bloat from the 12+ eggs is a price to pay.

So here's another one from me: :coffee:

Yep, that's right. The lovely black morning-midday-afternoon-evening beverage you just can't get enough of. I got all jittery from it but I used to like it! It wen't so bad with me that I started to drink the stuff from a pint! So it had to stop.

Nowadays if I drink coffee I can't get sleep and I'm nervous all day. So no thank you, that habit's a goner for good.

I've quit a lot of things, big quitter me, oh yes I have. Telling them all in a one go wouldn't just be fun..

Chocolate without doubt the hardest thing I've ever tried to give up, smoking was a hell of a lot easier than this.

All sorts of sweet eatings are quite hard to quit. I've made an (unbinding) oath not to eat anything too sugary, but I always find an excuse to have just one single peace of that sweet something...

Quit drinking and fixed my diet, which is pretty strict. In the beginning it might be hard, but once you see the results - and if you have a goal to keep your motivation - it becomes pretty natural; and to behold your self discipline and determination becomes rewarding and exciting enough on their own.

Haven't quit anything, at least nothing comes to mind. And i've decided that i'm never going to smoke or drink heavily, perhaps something sometimes, but i'm never going to get drunk.

Quit shoplifting? You rogue you. Never tried the five finger discount in RL myself, and don't plan to.

Stopped smoking cigars for nearly two months now. Like kuemp, it was financial reasons for me as well. T'was probably the best decision I ever took in my whole damn life.

Also stopped shroomz. Had heck of some funny highs on that. Like the Super Mario Bros one. THAT was f***ed up. I might treat myself to another such high someday. :hippy:

I quit chewing my nails, any and all drugs, drinking pop.

Chewing nails was easy, I just made sure I had nail clippers nearby so when I had an urge I clipped my nails instead of chewing them I just changed it into another habit.

Drugs was easy, I just stopped. I was about 35lbs overweight and not athletic anymore, and I realzied what it was doing to my body and just stopped.

Soda pop was also easy, I just subsituted water for pop and now I'm healthy than ever. I lost 20lbs in two weeks after I changed that habit

For health reasons, chicken is now on my stop eating list. Due to some through testing on my part (ie: I haven't eaten any in a few days), I've figured chicken is was makes my gout flare up. Gads, I sound like a really old, old man. :geezer: This means no more KFC and Subway. :wail:

    I quit binge drinking.

Don't get me wrong, I still drink -- just not 14 beers, 5 margaritas, and 3 shots of tequila in an evening.

Milkshakes and ice-cream. So yummy, but too much saturated fat for me.

Let's see... i used to smoke in certain social settings years ago, but then decided that I needed a New Years' resolution I wouldn't break so I figured I'd drop the smoking thing. it was easy - didn't have any trouble.

And like ku-Turso, I've quit shoplifting, too.

oh, and TV! mustn't forget TV... I no longer watch TV at home at all - my TV hasn't been turned on since March,a dn I don't miss it one bit.

Cigarettes over ten years ago. Health reasons.
Alcohol over 8 years ago. Health reasons. Wasn't that hard a give up (I was over 30 and most of my partying days were behind me).
Pot 1.5 years ago. Mental health reasons. This one was tougher. I have PTSD and smoked to help with that. I got some help and changed my lifestyle. Once I made up my mind to do it (July 5 2004), I just quit, smashed my bong, and now I live for today.

I never thought I would find myself here. I eat very healthy, excercise regularly (weight lifting and power walking), and don't "party" at all. I actually like clean living.

    @Chevalier: Somehow I'm not that surprised... ;)

I consider quitting things as a path to enlightenment. No surprise since the most of the not so good things I've done were from the times I wasn't so smart.

Quite a bit of my quittings do come from health reasons, like excess sugar, fats and smoking. But some of them come from saving time and/or brainspace and moral reasons. Doing bad things affect your thinking so that you'll become more lenient towards other things that are much worse. This is true in my case at least.

I've decided to quit binge drinking as well. We'll see how it goes...

But another thing I've quit: beating up people...

This was a long time ago when I was a kid and I thought of myself as a nemesis for bullies...you know: "an avenger from beyond brimming with justified rage" So quite a few times when someone was bullied, I pounded on the bully. I've never been a big guy myself..

And later when I'd gained more control over myself and didn't fall into a berserk rage anymore, the bullies sure paid back. Oh, those were the times..

Narcotics in general. Quite a feat since I haven't taken anything be it a tab of ecstasy, a joint of weed, a valium, a ketamin or whatever else is out there in over 5 years, and this stuff is even more prevalent now than it was back then. Not to mention all my friends still try to get me to take occassionally.

My addiction isn't harmful, therefore, I do not quit. :shake:

Congrats for all the people that have managed to get rid of their nasty habits. :)
