    three question :

-- What is the best game you ever played ?

-- What makes it the best ?

-- How could it be improved ? (combine with what game to make it perfect, or what bad things about that game that should be changed/upgrade/whatever)

The best game I played was the original Diablo. Not that it is better than BG2 (it’s not even close), but it was one of the first computer games I played, and I just got hooked on the ability to constantly improve your character through levelling up and getting better and better equipment. It’s the only game other than BG2 that I have played more than twice. I haven’t played another game since which gave me that same feeling of “wow, is this ever great”. BG2 is, of course, a much better game in comparison, and I know that if I went back to Diablo I would be bored to tears, but that same sense of amazement that I got with Diablo is missing.
In terms of how Diablo could have been improved, Diablo 2 went a long way in that regard, but I got bored with it very quickly since the fundamentals hadn’t changed very much. It needed more quests and more meaningful NPC interaction. As well, I found that I tended to use the same tactics over and over again, so it got very repetitive.

This probally should have been posted in The Playground, just so you know. My favorite game of all time is the Original Baldur's Gate. The game was so perfect for me that it was almost like I made the game all by myself. So far I have beaten it almost 8 times. What makes it the best is the story and simply the awesome feel of the game when you play( anyone who has played it should know what I mean). I personally think it is the only game ever made that could not be improved, except maybe the graphics, which I really don't care about very much.

IceWind Dale and Baldur's gate II form the D&D format.
Else my original time wasters were FPS' like QuakeII and Half-Life. Gotta love the feeling of fighting different creatures with different tactics.
This was specially true of Half-Life where it was not just about standing up and shooting everyone but actually doing those (now) annoying FedEx quests. The one thing which rankled was the AI but it has apparently been improved beyond recognition in the sequel.

The Close Combat series and especially Close Combat IV: The Battle of Bulge. The reason is that this game shows the war as it is reality, no epic music, just the sound of the guns and the screams of the wounded. Also, because it is accurate from the historical point of view (a Konig Tiger cannot be destroyed by a Stuart)and because you can't win with the tactic "gather all my forces and attack". If you try do to this, the majority of your troops will be dead in few minutes and the survivors will run for their lives. As for the improvements, I would like to be able to use the captured enemy equipment and to be able to reinforce units with equipment and troops from the units of the surrounding areas.

Dont have a "Best game ever" but I do have alot of "Great games".

    Fallout 1 & 2 are AWESOME.
I like the future theme, storyline (mostly in #1) and all the guns. And also that close combat isn´t useless even though most people carry guns. Two really balanced games.
Only thing I miss in them is that you cannot play multiplayer games. It would rock to be some friends playing instead of the pretty lame companions you can find.

Baldurs Gate 1 & 2... I probably wouldn´t spend atleast 6 hours in front of my computer every day if it wasn´t for these 2 games. They´ve changed my life. I cant think of one thing that I do not like about the BG series.

Final Fantasy VII. Yet another awesome game. To little "go and do what you want" things. But otherwise it has a great story and the whole system with materia and stuff rocks.

Baldur's Gate without a doubt. The perfect mix of storyline and gameplay just make it... wonderful.

As for me, the best game of all time (with their respected genre, and in no particular order) is
-- Counter-Strike (FPS) [More guns, More realistic damage, and vehicle] It's all about skill and realism

-- Diablo II LoD (Adv) [A Better Story, Better graphic, Better SECURITY !!, More levels, More Enemy kinds, More NPC] Mindless Hack n Slash is good for the fatigued mind

-- Warcraft III (RTS) [Frozen Throne has answer my pray, though still missing water unit] Best strategy game ever. There are to many aspect of this game that controls winning and losing.

-- Final Fantasy VII(RPG-Console) The first RPG i ever played. The great game that introduce me to the RPG genre. It's kind of your first love, you know, the one you won't forget.

-- Icewind Dale II (RPG-PC) [Better story, "save the world" theme is getting very annoying. More level, campaign is too short. More RPG. More options. More Race, Subrace, Class, Kits, Weapon, and enemy kind] I know i should've picked Baldur's Gate II but i never finish it, so i'd never know. My excuse is after playing the flexible 3e rule games, finishing BG2 is not a priority anymore. Playing 2e after 3e is boring, 2e are to strict.

    Addendum :
The Title will be changed to The Great Games You Played (the word "best" limit the option to one)
if you wish to write more than one game or wish to write by their genre/platform, Please follow the above format.

    Baldur's Gate 2 - Improved by 3rd edition.
Diablo 1 - Improved by being able to run :)
Diablo 2 - Improved by not letting regular bnet asses play it and have the balancing left to Varaya and Khan of the MiddleEarth Mod.

I'm sure I replies to this just the other night :hmm: Maybe I was just imagining it...
Oh well, my favourite game would probably be either the first Civilization or BGs.
Civilization I don't think could be improved to many ways. IMO having to good graphics would ruin the game, so it can't be improved in that way...

For me, it is a race between "Planescape: Torment" and "Ufo: Enemy unknown" (aka Xcom in some lands). As much as I worship P:T, I will go for nostalgia and choose Xcom. Great idea, good balance, great research tree and unbelievable turn-based combat system. Play it in the middle of the night with the lights off if you are in need of an adrenalin shot :mommy:

Settlers II. Humour, graphics (yeah!), music, sounds, setting, story, gameplay, interface, strategy, tactics, development and of course a little touch of war and violence. Can it be improved? Well, nothing makes it bad.

If I can say only ONE game, it would be... Master Of Orion II. I had played it more times than any other game, and i think i have discovered everything there is about that game. To make it better, you shouldn't make it as MOO III, but i would be just enough happy with new and better graphics (not necessarily 3D), new inventions (but with same research system as in 2nd part) and with some additional special skills for races. There are some nice things in 3rd part that i would copy, but i would definitely change planet management.

Morrowind, because of the huge world and the total freedom of doing whatever you like. The game never seems to end, and with expansions like Tribunal and Bloodmoon things only got better.

[IMG] The best game I've ever played is Dark Sun - Shattered Lands. A good number two is Diablo 2 and a good number three is Baldur's Gate.
Nothing compares to the Dark Sun game though. Graphics were not fantastic, but the storyline was incredible compared to those you find today.

I think the game I have enjoyed the most and still enjoy so many years after it's release is Dungeon Keeper 2.

    It's just pure genius.

The Baldurs Gate games is ofcourse some of the best games too. I have noe idea how many times I played BG1, but it's alot.... There's just something about the mood in that game that makes me go back to it.

For me it is Seiken Denetsu 3 ( also known as Secret of Mana 2 ) on the Snes. I really loved that game !!! It wasn't that good as Final Fantasy 7, but it had a fantastic multiplayer mode. My friend and I played it for about 12th times to the end, and it was always fun. It had also a very high replay value, because there were six characters to choose from, and this six characters could transform to 12 different classes at the end. It was fantastic. The only improvement would be to add a little more story, because when you have to kill the God Beasts, it gets a little boring. And of course, better graphics wouldn't be bad, because the game is on the Snes.

A few which I think can't and shouldn't be improved (even thought some did, resulting in some very bad results). I'm doing this by platform.

Nes --> Super mario brother III, best nes game ever made, platforming was great then and this was the best.

Snes --> Super mario Kart, seriously the best snes game ever made, addictive and fast. The only race game I ever bothered to play, and I still do!

Now a few for the PC.

Civilization --> the original one, I still remember when a nephew of mine came with this game and installed it on my computer. The sheer hours I put in this game (and the packages of yogho yogho, a milk drink) are over the top.

    Moving on with

Settlers II --> Mollusken pretty much downed it with his previous post. Except that bluebyte screwed over a lot of fans with it's sequel.

Diablo I --> Got me into PC rpg's, you wouldn't believe how many times I heard the phrase "What can I do fer ye"

Baldur's Gate I --> got it, played it an hour, got killed by a wolf, did not save, brought it back to the vendor, got it again a year later with expansion, played it, still do, still great, still addictive, best rpg ever created by mankind.

    EDIT

Can you believe I forgot Heroes of Might and Magic III, just one more turn, o.k one more turn..........a hundred turns later: one more turn :thumb:
