As per topic. Me, I'm of the click and forget type, and thus there is no surprise my usual party in a vanilla game is made up of mostly fighters. Though I do abuse 4xPI occasionally. As for my PC, I like him to be able to do almost everything, so a thief class is definately a must. I sometimes go for f/m/t for more fighting prowess, or a swashie/mage if I feel more like throwing magic around.

Well I am a magic addict, focused on arcane side. I never have less than 3 arcane casters in my party. And my PC has to be able to cast. More arcane spells, the merrier! I love buffing like crazy, and killling all with sweet destruction magic I rain upon my enemies...Trying new tactics&combos with magic always fascinates me!

I am having great fun with my Wild Mage right now, he is sure powerful AND fun! I also have Immy and Kelsey with me:never ending Time Stops and brutal spell armageddons! :thumb: My screen is often filled with various cool spell animations. (I have IWD casting graphics so they look a lot better too, IMHO!)

I will try a sorcerer with a theme next time. Truly, arcane magic is fun and powerful! I just so love the feel of casting a Time Stop, for instance! Can't get enough of it!

I am a solo maniac. I just can't play with a party. I also have the same problem in my real life too.

I like soloing thiefs. Either fighting (swashbuckler or f/t) or stealthy assassin types (assassin or f/t). I like being able to detrap, hide, set traps etc.

I don't like mages but for a funny game i like wild mage. :thumb: It's raining cows!

I prefer to go for a balanced group, usually containing 3 warriors in the frontline, one of whom is my PC. I'm nearly always some kind of combat class with my PC, usually a Paladin for the extra abilities.

I tend to play a fairly cleric and fighter heavy party, my PC ends up being a mage-type class to balance things up. While I like the power of multiple mages, there are too many days when I can't be bothered going through all the casting and want to click and forget.

I go for a balanced group, but I tend not to use magic much, saving it for big stuff and then just letting loose. As a result, I pay special attention to making sure even my arcanes have a good missile weapon available that they can waste time with (and maybe even hit). Divines usually end up mostly tanks and after-combat healers, because as a result of low arcane use, I rest very rarely (using a S/L exploit to bypass travel fatigue). That makes divine offensive spell-casting less of a priority than keeping my party members' HP up.

I favor stealth casters over offensive or buffing casters, meaning that I tend to fill up my arcanes' slots with area effect spells, especially those that do more damage over time. For Edwin I tend to fill him up with single-target spells, like Flame Arrow, until I get the SotM. Then it's Fireballs all the way (with the possible exception of the Marching Mountains, depending on when I rest). And of course every caster has a good stock of things like Breach and Pierce Magic to take down opposite spellcasters' protections so the rest of my party can make mincemeat out of them.

What exploit? And what does S/L mean?

I usually play fairly balanced group. Two warriors, one of whics is my PC, two arcane spellcasters, two divine spellcasters and a thief. Seeing how Jansen abd Imoen are only thiefs worth keeping in the long run, there's no problem with party number.

I usually like to let one arcane spellcaster out of the party to make room for other NPC. I did the same when my PC was thief. I don't care much for them, one is more than enought for me. I never played arcane spellcaster PC until now. Maybe I'll try wild mage somewhere in the future. After the barbarian, archer, cavalier, ranger/cleric and fighter/cleric :p

I would assume Felinoid is referring to save/load. And if you're going to use an "exploit" to save time, just CTRL+R. Seriously.

I swing 2 ways. Like Mongerman, I prefer "click and forget" as well, which is why I usually have at least 2 solid tanks and ideally a good archer with plenty of arrows, min-maxed for the best stats and THAC0, then just turn them loose. I'm not crazy about micromanagement and I'm even lazier about healing (in BG2, I'll often just rest to heal). This is also ironically why I have a soft spot for skalds since they can be decent backup casters, but they're also walking buff machines, especially once you get stoneskin and higher-level protection skills to go with the high-level skald songs.

The other way I prefer to play is with a small, focused party of less than 6 with some micromanagement, but with the goal of leveling and gaining power through items quickly. Very focused NPCs like Korgan, Edwin, and Sarevok are good for this kind of playstyle. (Conversely, second-rate or all-rounder characters like Minsc, Jaheira, Valygar, and Cernd are lousy for this playstyle...or, lousier than usual).

Charging Blindly on, uh foolishly on. it wrks most of the time. unless i know that strategy will not work, like with the twisted ruin early in the game, the Key guard in WK level 5 and Demogorgon.

My, am I the only magic-heavy guy who buffs/casts like crazy? Or is it due to my mods making me paranoid and a bit cowardly?

I will not fight a goblin without casting my usual protections/buffs fully first:and I can give you a LONG list. Better be safe than sorry! :shake:

It's a democracy we live in, so you're free to choose :) Me, I'll take a good sword over a spell every time :p It's so much more fun to kick the life put of the enemy than just watch him die to the spell :D

    CTRL+R doesn't fix fatigue.

And the exploit in question happens when you save just after entering an area. The fatigue hasn't been applied yet, so if you quit and then restart the game, and load up the save, it won't occur.

I am a heavy magic user but I do like watching my fighters kick the crap through something as well. While I dont go to the extent the Silverstar does, I do like the pure destruction of watching a meteor swarm take out a group of low level enemies.

When it comes to party make up, I tend to follow the pattern I got into from playing the classic RPG The Bard's Tale; three fighter types up front to beat people up with the back three firing off either ranged weapons or magic. It's a style I'm comfortable with and it works very well for me.

As for my PC, I'm always a Fighter class of some kind, though I have been a Ninja one time. I have to lead from the front, so I need to be a class that can carry their end of a good brawl.

My style would be closest to that described by Felinoid. I usually 'save' my good offensive spells for big encounters, relying on melee and missile damage as much as possible. I mostly stick to long lasting buffs, because it's too much hard work to micro-manage the brief buffs except for big tough fights.

I use melee and missile usually, and healing spells afterwards. For other spell casting, I always forget to use spells or buffs. If my PC is a thief, I like sneaking around doing things alone. A good example is my f/m/t - I played him like a f/t with stoneskin until I run into something I can't cut through. Then I use magic.

I almost always make my character a melee machine. I usually have 2 tanks and heep the best armor and protection items on them and have them wade in and take the hits, and keep everyone else hammering with ranged weapons. Most uninteligent type monsters just try to go toe to toe with my tanks and leave the ranged people alone. A ranged attack group can put a hurting on my group, but they ususally fall apart when my tanks start slaughtering them. I usually have my best archer zero in on the spell casters to interupt their spells.

I try to go about battles in a ballanced fashion. If there are a lot of enemies (like at the Oasis) I'll first send in my mages/clerics with several area effect spells, and then send my tanks after the the remaining badies. My party is usually balanced with 2 tanks, at least 2 mages, a theif, and a cleric.

My current party consists of: a sorcerer (PC), a paladin (Saerilith), a generic fighter (Sarevok), a mage/theif (Immy), a cleric/mage (Aerie), and a fighter/druid (Jaheira). :thumb: :rolling:
