What mods would you suggest?

    Ladies, gentlemen,

after returning to BGI and BGII for the first time in some years, I have decided to go whole hog and install plenty of mods.

I am a roleplayer ( I like dialogue and the romances), I prefer conversation and puzzle solving over brute hack and slash but I like the whole forging new items from old Cespenar does. (Ok, I admit it, I love Cespenar.)

I am going to run a game (Or two) from Candlekeep to Ascension and I want to get as much fun out of it as possible.

    So my question is:

Waht mods do you suggest? How compatible would they be? In what order is installation safest.

BG I ToSC and BG II ToB IWD I/II HoW available. And Torment.

    Thanks in advance!

I can't comment specifically, because I don't have BG1. However, if you do a search of the BG2 ToB forum (where this thread will soon be moved to) for "mods" (title only), I think you'll find a lot of helpful suggestions. :)

There's no problem about it being posted in this forum, it's just much more likely that you'll get far more responses in the ToB forum... so it's up to Al where he wants it.

Oops. I forgot this was the private forum. Sorry, Al. If you didn't know already that I'm a dumbass, you know it now. :D

But Tal is right - you're better off posting this in the ToB forum. :)

Well for BGII, Unfinished Business, for the Boo quest, make sure you take Korgan and Edwin along. Some good dialogs there, between those two and Minsc. And I suppose Multiple Strongholds from Ease of Use. Cleric, Bard, Mage strongholds are virtually all dialog, not much fighting. Banter pack, that's always good.

Not too familiar with mods for BGI, I tend to deal mostly with BGII. And i'm not too familiar with Ascension.

What the? I thought I had posted this there. I must have been more tired then I thought yesterday.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. And I would be obliged if someone moved this thread.

Well then, Item Upgrade is a must.

I also really like the changes introduced by Rogue Rebalancing.

Well, since you aren't too much into the hackn slash and crazy battles, avoid battles enhancing Mods (such as IA or Tactics, etc..), since they add a LOT of challenge and require a lot of powergaming. They are fun in their own way, but really made for the "pro" player that knows every battle by heart and wants a new experience - IA is the way to go for this.

As far as you're concerned, I would recommend Unfinished Business, Quest pack (make sure to avoid conflicting components), Banter Pack (if you like dialogue this is a great one), the Item Upgrade mod (although quite overpowered, it's still fun), the underepresented item mod (even more overpowered than the Item Upgrade, bust has a few nice items - just avoid the overly powered ones), plus some NPC packs: Kelsey is great, Kivan is good, Xan is pretty nice for its depressingly fun Banter, and there are others, as well.

Just note that UB abd QP are buggy at times, but not so much that they ruin the game for you.

Tutu for the BG1 part, and then there are improvements to the banter there, as well as new romances added on.

For BG1, EasyTutu+BG1 NPC combo is the best:
    http://www.usoutpost31.com/easytutu/
    http://gibberlings3.net/bg1npc

Also, some companion/smaller NPC mods for BG1(with EasyTutu):
http://pocketplane.net/tutumods (Finch NPC, Xan's Friendship, Indira NPC, Sirine's Call - a small quest)
    http://gibberlings3.net/gavin (Gavin NPC)
    http://gibberlings3.net/coran (Coran friendship)

For IWD:HoW, I am making an NPC mod(well, five, actually) right now, but you'll have to wait for rather a while. :)

    For IWD2: Domi's IWD2 NPC mod. Definitely:
    http://gibberlings3.net/iwd2npc

    For BG2:
Quest mods such as Unfinished Business, Quest Pack, Dungeon Crawl, all available here:
    http://www.pocketplane.net/mambo/

NPC-related mods such as Banter Pack, Flirt Pack, Romantic Encounters:
    http://www.pocketplane.net/banter
    http://www.pocketplane.net/npcflirt
    http://gibberlings3.net/romanticencounters

NPC mods such as Keto(quality banter, stories), Xan(romance, friendship, banter, quests), Kelsey(romance, banter, a quest), full voicing for all three:
    http://www.pocketplane.net/kelsey
    http://www.pocketplane.net/keto
    http://www.pocketplane.net/xan

The Longer Road(Irenicus NPC in ToB), Fade(romance), Edwin romance:
    http://shsforums.net

Kivan(banters, banters, romance), Amber(banters, romance, full voicing):
    http://gibberlings3.net/kivan
    http://gibberlings3.net/amber

And find these and all other mods via the modlist: http://modlist.pocketplane.net

    Wonderful! Thank you all!

Btw, I read somewhere about a mod called Lost Items for BG I. Is that around somewhere and if so, Tutu compatible?

Goes to download lots of mods...

    edit
Reading EasyTutu Readme. Is this compatible with Baldurdash? Or should I leave that off in the Install? Or is it recommended? Thanks!

Improved Anvil contains the biggest collection of new quests for BG2; but as the other poster mentioned, it's primarily a mod for professional players (as it includes really difficult battles too). However, even less experienced players can play it if they have the patience to draw a learning curve and start to improve their tactical expertise during the game.

I can also recommend Tower of Deception v3; though it's also strongly recommended to play it with Improved Anvil installed.

You can also check DHDC for other mods.

OK this is nothing againts IA, but I think Sikret's second sentence could lead to an impression that IA affects main ToD's quest, so the players can't fully enjoy ToD without IA. That isn't true of course.
ToD has three components now. First one contains main quest and is required for other two optional components. IA alters only the second of those optional components.

I recommend The Fields of the Dead for original BG1 game.

As far as I know, you really don't need Baldurdash with EasyTutu, yes. If you've got more Tutu-related questions, here's one more link - Tutu technical support:
    http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/board,46.0.html

I know Lost Items mod is being revived by Miloch here:
    http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,23654.html
I haven't played it, though, so I can't recomend it.

I also second the recommendation of Tower of Deception - it's a cool standalone quest mod with new areas and movies.

Actually, since Al says he's a roleplayer who likes dialogue and romances, IA might not be for him. The new content is certainly nice, but at its core, IA is a tactical mod for players who don't mind meta-gaming and multiple reloads until they figure out a way to win battles; typically, this would be more suitable for people who consider themselves to be more of a powergamer than roleplayer. But then again, there are different degrees to which people roleplay, so IA might be worth a shot anyway.

Correct, no fixes (BG or BG2) other than the official patches are needed as they're built into EasyTutu directly.

Since I don't know you, I cannot answer this thread very effectively.

Perhaps if you could post what you would like for your game experience it would be easier for me to reccomened mods for you.

If I remember correctly, there was (at least) one other encounter in Tower of Deception's core component which would be affected by IA.

It was a lich who used one of the game's generic scripts. I don't know if Valiant has changed him to use a unique script in v3 or not. If not, then the battle with the lich will also be more challenging if IA is installed, because that particular generic script is improved by IA.

But yes, it is mainly the third component of the mod which will be seriously affected by IA.

The lich in Quest Pack has the best script ever written for a lich.

It is a fun and challenging fight, that requires no cheese to win, as the lich does not use any cheese of his own.

Quest Pack is probably the best BGII mod that has been made.
