What new class combinations would you explore with the release of Icewind Gate?

Since it's based on 3E rules, you can do a LOT more with the classes. For example, instead of Aerie advancing in both Mage and Cleric, you could choose to only advance her in mage. And what classes do you think would compliment the classes the NPC's already have?

I'd multi Korgan with a barbarian. Mazzy could finally be a Paladin (although it'll be interesting to see how the Dev. team handle Mazzy complaining about how she can't become a paladin when she 'is' a paladin). Finally be able to play the game as a paladin/thief/sorcerer :)

I would probably multi Minsc with barbarian LOL.

And at least Nalia's thieving abilities can now be improved without having to take rogue levels.

Dunno about Mazzy, if they start her off as fighter, she will take xp hit due to taking a class that is not her preferred class if you choose paladin (would she be strongheart or lightfoot).

This will be a tricky one. Every fighter class will want a level of rogue for the sneak attack bonus. Every rogue/bard class will want some ranger and fighter levels for dual-wielding and better fighting skills.

The characters that will really suffer will be the multi-class characters as 3E rules reduce the power of multi-classing so a mage/cleric would need to concentrate on one class more than the other or have two very weak classes.

It does make some of the weaker classes like mage/thief into super-classes, so it should be good.

Personally I will go for a Bard, with probably 4 levels of fighter. Awesome!!!

There shouldn't be kits, other than prestige classes that get added as extra levels. This is the beauty of V3. You create the type of character you want, by using the bits of each class to get the abilities you want.

Example, for a really cool assassin .....

Rogue 10+ --> gain excellent thief abilities
    Ranger 1 --> gain dual-wielding + favored enemy
Fighter 4 --> advanced weapon specialisation (or whatever it's called)
Assassin 1+ --> gain assassin abilitied + spells

okay, there would be an xp penalty but you would have exactly the character you want.

Kits were introduced into V2 because you couldn't multi or dual to the degree that people wanted, so kits were a way of by-passing these restrictions.

What if they did implement kits? Like say...a Kensai/Assassin...lol but im just imagining. If they didn't, I would be sad since the BG2 kits are awesome!

They won't. The IWD2 engine isn't built for it. Unless somebody comes out with another mod, there won't be prestige classes in Icewind Gate. I think he's either thinking of NWN, or just 3.5 AD&D rules.

I am looking forward to Icewind Gate - the engine is great, I like the new rules, and classes are somewhat more balanced. I think I would try something like a tiefling bard/druid in IWG. I'd also make Imoen a pure thief.

I think the real question is... Is IWG ever going to be released?
