What Should I Buy?

I want to move my character to BG2 but I am not sure which game/games to purchase. Should I buy the "Complete Collection" or should I buy SoA and ToB individually?

I can save a little bit of money by purchasing the Complete Collection, but I heard that you don’t get a paper manual or map.

Are there any other differences that I should be aware of?

You probably won't get a paper manual even if you buy the games individually; I imagine new copies of the game will have the manual on disk, as is generally the done thing these days.

 

I prefer manuals on the computer, since they're harder to lose, and I'm very good at losing things, so I'd say save the money. I think the individual games do still have paper manuals though, if they're sold in the original company's (ie not a budget company's) packaging. I can't be sure though.

I got my copy of BG II in two DVD cases, and the manuals were on disk. They weren't budget editions, iirc. You can probably guage whether the manual is paper or disk by what shape the box is.

No system differences, as far as I'm aware.

 

I got the 'Ultimate Collection'. It's just easier to get it all in one and install it all together. No paper manuals but you don't really need that when you have SP at your fingertips.

Does anyone know what files I need to save to export my character?

 

BG2 allows you to import a character (iir, saved games too) from BG1, in the records page of your character just click export and give a filename. That should work fine

I'm not sure if I agree with the above comments - When I first bought the game I read the manual like a novel, and I find the hard copy a lot easier to use as I don't have to boot up my pc first.
Just my opinion.

 

If you wanted to read the manuals then surely you could adjust the fonts and print it out?

But I'm not sure how big the manual is, I've seen Frosty has a manual but it was the smaller size, still would be big I suppose
