    A hypothetical 'if' here. Now, if Tal were to throw in some new 'Instant Graemlins' to the great lineup that there already is, what special kind of smiley would just make your day?

    For me, it would be a Boo smiley. Just because I have a thing for smileys with fur and an attitude.

    Even of the smilies we already have, a great number of them is hardly ever used. Where would you use a "Boo smiley", for example?

    At the end of every post related to BG1 or 2? ;)

    We've got a lot of smilies as it is. The basics are covered, and any extra smilies won't be used often anyway.

    Actually, there are two that I can think of:

    1. A "tongue-in-cheek" smilie. I usually end up using :p , but in a lot of cases, it's a poor substitute.

    2. A better smilie for "embarrassment". I know we have :o , but this looks more like a choir boy who's collar is too tight, rather than someone who is embarrassed. And :heh: doesn't quite do it either. (Actually, the smilie in the Message Icons - red face, squiggly mouth - would be pretty good)

    Not that it is that important, but sometimes I really do miss it.

    And perhaps something similar for quoting movies or games, but that'll be hard, I guess.

    Keep in mind that smilies that could potentially be used on SP must not:

    a) be too large (not much larger than our currently largest smilies)
    b) have any elements only visible on light background, i.e. anything in black on transparent background
    c) be of a different graphic style than the ones on SP
    d) be considered bad taste

    Smilies on SP are kept to a higher standard than on most other sites, same as everything else.

    Agreed. One of the nice things about the Boards O' Magick is that all the flashing lights, enormous signatures, and pandemic smilies are kept to a conservative minimum. This makes it easier to concentrate on all the spam, I mean, intelligent discussion that is going on. We only need new smilies if they will be as nice and simple as the existing ones. :cool:
