What Would be a Fun PC for this Party??

[IMG] For my next run, I think I'm going to do a party using characters that I don't normally pick up. I also am going for a smaller party (4 characters until I pick up Immy). So here's what I have:

    Mazzy
    Cernd
    Haer'Dalis
    Imoen

So, what do you guys think would be a good PC to compliment this party? My only criteria is that I'd prefer a singleclass character, and I'd rather not be a thief (because my current run is with a thief PC). I thought maybe a paladin would fit nicely, but I am still interested in your opinions!

Also, does Mazzy work best using a bow primarily, or up front fighting? And how does one use Haer'Dalis in a party? I have played a solo blade but I'm not sure what his party role would be...

    Thanks

I'm thinking an inquisitor would work well. Good tank with some great abilities.

Or how about a stalker, gives you a good backstabber and a few additional priest spells.

Another healer would be in order, since you only have Cernd doing that and he can't cast spells during fights (werewolf form), so I'm trying to sell Cavalier to you.

Inquisitor: dispell magic + true sight, no other spells. But after you get Carsomyr, you only need his true sight, which three other people from you group can provide.
Cavalier: priest spells, good against demons and dragons (it's actually like a ranger with two racial enemies). No missile weapons, so can only tank, which isn't a big loss.

A cleric of Lathander fits best. The best paladin kit for your party is undead slayer, since you don't have a cleric to take care of them.

How you use Mazzy is up to you, properly buffed and dualwielding with kundane or belm in the off-hand she's the best tank in the game, but she's the best ranged attacker in your party too.
The same applies to other party members, druids and bards are rather back-row casters, but the shapeshifter and blade kit yield only melee bonuses, it's up to you how you want to use them.

Swashbuckler would work very well as it works excellently as a tank later on and you only have Imoen's weak thieving abilities to get you through the game. A single healer is perfectly sufficient in a higher level party, but not having a thief at all is asking for trouble, particularly going through Watcher's Keep. Swashy also has an unmatchable AC, even fighters can't achieve the same numbers as a high level swashy. Am I getting my love of the swashy over well enough here? :p

In answer to your question, I've used Mazzy as a tank many times with astounding results. High dex really pays off with a decent armour, short sword and a large shield ;)

Swashbuckler would fit in nicely; decent melee abilities with those thieving skills. IMO you'll need a better thief than Imoen, or you'll have to rely heavily on potions in some areas. With a swashy you could put skill points mainly on find traps and lockpicking, since you can't backstab and Haer'Dalis can pick the pockets, if/when needed. On the other hand, none of those NPCs uses blunt weapons very efficiently, so a cleric would in that sense be a good choice. Also, Cernd doesn't have access to all priest spells. Without that singleclass restriction, I'd recommend a dualclassed fighter(berserker?)/cleric.

Keep Haer'Dalis at the back in the beginning, but when he gets Stoneskin etc., he can help out in melee. I have used Mazzy only as an archer.. it just isn't right to send her alone against hordes of trolls ;)

True, except for the fact that the OP made this statement:

Imoen can handle every lock and trap in the game, without additional potions or equipment.

Personally, I favor multiclass or dualclass characters most of the time, moreso since you're only going with 4 party members.

    I'd play a Dwarf F/C, a Half-Elf C/R or a Human Berserker 9 > Cleric.

BTW, are you planning on using a substitute Thief for Imoen? Yoshimo works well here since you get him early. :) ;)

Well I don't have a problem with just installing the no traps/locks component of G3TweakPack, because I really don't want to play a thief. I don't plan on bringing Yoshi.

Does anyone know of any good ranger kit mods out there? I'm thinking something that is both unique AND not ridiculously overpowered.

Well, the Vagrant kit seems pretty cool, but it comes with an intensely game changing price tag: Improved Anvil. If extreme challenge/tactics aren't your cup of tea, than I don't recommend Vagrant ;) (I'm using one in my IA 5.0 game, which is on tempory hiatus while I break in my new PC).

Otherwise, I'm sure others can be more help here than I.

Actually I love IA, I just don't have time to commit myself to an IA run yet. Should be able to in a few weeks or so though :D

Still, a ranger kit would be very fun. Part of the reason is I've never really done much of the ranger stronghold.
