What's so bad about Haer'Dalis?

You heard me, can cat spells and has some offensive abilities, sure he can't tank it, but makes a suitable 2nd line fighter.

 

Yeah, I found Haerry to be pretty useful. You can get him some good chainmail that he can cast spells in while wearing in the same quest that you get him in. His low hitpoints are his downside.

 

Nothing is bad about him!

He is great

He is part of my combo that allows me to fire off 4 magic missiles at once

 

He's a weak idiot. I almost have as much bad things to say about him as I do Anomen but I'm not going to. And in case you don't know I could write an essay on how much I hate Anomen.

 

Gonna have to go with Archer14 on this one. What does he have to offer that you cannot find better from elsewhere? I guess you could use him as a thief/mage but he's still a bit weedy. There are times in the game that call for magic, other times for fighting, and IMHO I wouldn't want him for either of those times...nor Anomen! If you need a wizard, go for edwin, if you need a thief, take Yoshimo or Imoen and if you need a fighter you're really spoilt for choice.

 

Jeez, you people never learn. You don't *have* to take someone into your party simply because they are the best at what they do. If you like Haer'Dalis take him into your party. People are so busy thinking about having the "best" of everything, even if they don't really have much application for it. Why do you need all of those extra spells when you rarley cast that many anyway?

 

haerdalis is a niche character - hes not brilliant at any one thing, but he sure holds his own at many things - he can fight up front or sling spells at the back - also handy for breaching enemy spell defenses when your main spellcaster is tied up - plus he has natural resistances to almost everything and has 2 proficiencies in shortswords - if you prefer to play with finesse rather than blind diablo-style hacking, haerdalis is your man

 

The bad thing about him is his kit.
The blade is IMO the baddest bard kit due to their lack of lore and pickpocket ability.
Also their bard song doesn't become better so he's infact just a bad fighter.

Haery is a nice character, methinks. He has good lore and can be used as almost anything. Sure, he's not as good at the various tasks as those that specialise in them, but he does just fine...

You ever seen him fight with Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Offensive Spin and Tenser's Transformation activated? Great fun!

 

Haer'Dalis surely is very powerful, despite his limiting on spell casting, he can do more magical damage than wizards cuz only he can reach lv 23 in SoA. Using him cast chainlighting or other spells which damage or effect could benefit from high level caster, you'd not regret taking him.

Heh, not early enough. You have to free him from the planar prison to get him, and I doubt you'd be doing that at a very low level. You get the Death ability on your chromantic orbs at level 12, and I've never gone there at a lower level than that.

 

No you don't. You can put if off for a while after getting him from that wizard.

Mind you own buisness. I was just comparing them. You shouldn't complain about Aerie anyway she is the best. The exact opposite of Anomen so shutup about her.

I always liked Haer'Dalis. It just takes a while to get used to using him properly. Haer'Dalis is a useful middleman who can run about, backing up any character (be they fighter, wizard, thief, whatever) with his varied skills. If you really want to see him come into his own, buy TOB.

 

Like I said, you can complete the game with any combonation of characters, or even solo, so don't worry about one NPC too much. I usually only have 3 to 4 people in my group, I hate giving everyone orders for every little battle, and I refuse to ever use AI.

 

To lord Saverok, the planer prison is easy just done it yesterday with my party, and no one was higher than level 9.
