What's the weakest/hardest to play race/class?

Ok, I'm setting up for my next BG2 party that I will take to the end of ToB...but this time, I want it to be hard. So for my PC, I'm going to make all his stats 12 (or as low as they can go depending on his race/class). IIRC 12 was the average for your typical human farmer.

So, what would you say the weakest race is, and what is the weakest or hardest class to play with?

I'll be taking Aerie, Nallia, Immy (filling in for Nallia as soon as I get Immy back), Jaheria, and either Mazzy or one of the female NPC mods. My PC is a male chauvinistic jerk that like to surround himself with women who are mostly stronger than he is...

Once I get to ToB, I might take Sarevok...just because he has a similar "better than you" attitude. :p :rolling:

10 actually, but 12 wouldn't be unrealistic for an area of specialty.

Weakest race and class would have to be a non-dualled human. I suspect the Beastmaster's restrictions would be hardest.

    EDIT:
Then again, a single-classed priest (cleric or druid) with low wisdom might be sucky enough. Maybe even an Avenger for extra stat lowering. How does this sound to you?

    STR 8 (50 lbs.)
    DEX 10
    CON 8
    INT 10
    WIS 12
    CHA 15

Hmmm...I've already played as a druid, and I'll be taking Jaheira, and I'd rather not have two druids in the same party.

As for the stats, I think I'm going to keep them at 12...unless a certain class/kit requires one ore more states to be at least 13 or something.

So if 10 is the average, then my guy will be slightly stronger, faster, and smarter than your average pesant. I just don't want him to be "god-like". :p

A Beastmaster doesn't sound too bad. That's a ranger kit isn't it? :rolling:

You want to make it varyingly hard on yourself. Make a mage multi-class and then have it insist on wearing armor that disables it's mage spells. You'd get half the experience (with a small boost from being able to at least learn the spells.) but you'd still have full access to the other class of your combination.

^Now that idea is very tricky indeed, you may consider it! :p

Weakest or hardest to play would be Beastmaster, or so I heard. Or you can try a pure, boring fighter, with lousy stats, it will be hard, and he won't have many choices but to fight... :shake: poorly...

Actually, 10.5 is the average stat for an adventurer. Gygax even stated the average adventurer was an exceptional person -- that would imply the average peasant had considerably lower stats. Your farmer might be exceptional (slightly above average) in a couple of stats, but much lower in the rest.

I agree with everyone else -- Beastmaster. Armor limitations, only specialized, no metal weapons. Combine that with average stats and you have quite a challenge. Choose either human or half-elf (can't have those pesky bonuses with a bow).

The only other combination might be a barbarian with average stats (go for half-orc with str and con as low as possible). The barbarian rage adds to +4 to str and con -- if those stats are at 10 or less it basically becomes only defensive.

The third may be a jester with low intelligence. This character should have no problems at the beginning (confusion is quite good against lower level creatures) but later the enemies make all the saves.

Go with at least core rules and accept whatever level up hit points you're assigned.

Yes the Beastmaster is probably the weakest class, low stats or not.

But IMHO in BG2 items&weapons are much more important than the character's stats.
Your game will be hard only if you refuse to use the STAT-boosting items like girdles of STR,gauntlets of DEX,girdle of Fortitude etc...

You know the sad part about BG2 pertaining to this build?

You've got items to compensate for EVERY SINGLE ability score your giving up on.

    Belts of XX Giant Strength
    Bracers of Dexterity
    Girdle of Constitution
    Potions of Genius
    Potions of Insight
    Ring of Human Influence...

If you REALLY want a challenging experience, I recommend the NO MAGIC items challenge.

You can be ANY class you want...but it has to be stock. No SK'ing, no modding, no nothing.

You have to be wearing only normal equipment. This basically means normal weapons always, plain FUll Plate Mail, Studded Leather Armor etc as the class requirements vary.

You can only use magic weapons to fight enemies requiring them...example Kangaxx. Even then, you can only use plain vanilla +4 weapons etc.

That's the way to play a challenge in this game.

BG2 items are teh broken! :(

That's why I wonder why people spend so long rolling stats for this game when is so easy to compensate.

 Wizardslayer. No belts, bracers, girdles, rings, or potions. No way to boost stats, barring magical weapons like Axe of the Unyielding, Crom Faeyr, or Angurvadal (and most only boost STR).

FYI, minimum stats with no penalties:
    STR 8
    DEX 7
    CON 7
    INT 7/10 (lore)
    WIS 8/10 (lore)
CHA 10 (should be 8; :skeptic: gonna have to fix that...)

Ok, so to clear some things up, I'm not planning on making the game literally impossible.

My character will be traveling with all female companions, who can all cast magic (except for Mazzy if I chose to take her)...so having a Wizardslayer in a party of spellcasters doesn't make much sense to me.

The Beastmaster sounds pretty hard with the no armor and no metal weapons limitations.

    So here's another question:

What are some good female NPC mods that aren't too overpowered (i.e. Valen)? :rolling:

    From PPG's modlist, there's:
Alassa, Allison, Ariena, Auren, Azure, Chloe, Fade, Hessa, Kari, Keto, Kiara & Zaiya, Kitanya, Saerileth, Sheena, Tashia, Valen, and Yasraena.

Personally, I would suggest Auren or Chloe (both kensais IIRC), as Auren romances Nalia and Chloe romances Imoen (if you don't get to Chloe first, that is ;) ). Though I think I should tell you that Chloe has 24 DEX, it's not that big a deal since that only means 2 points of AC (and as an undualable kensai, she kind of needs it).

Whoa! The female NPCs are comming out of the woodworking! Last time I checked, there was Chloe, Keto, Tashia, and Valen.

Good to see that the number of them has increased. And two of them are lesbians too I see...that should make for an interesting runthrough of the game: My PC romancing Jaheira and Aerie, and one of the female NPCs romancing Nalia or Immy. We'll be one big, happy family...

Ok, I checked out all the female NPCs listed on PPG's site, and I have a few questions for some of the mods I found the most apealing:
    • Chloe sounds pretty good, but it looks like she is only for SoA. So my question is; are they working to extend the mod through ToB?
    • Saerileth sound good too, but how much voicing is there? And what Paladin kit is she? And what are your thoughts on her?
    • Also, Tasha sounds really good because she's a sorceress (not taking Kelsey this time). But does she have any voicing? I found very limited info on Tasha, so any info on her would be helpfull!
    Thanks. :rolling:

If "extensive voicing" is what you want, go for Saerileth. Tashia does have voicing (taken from a game called "The Longest Journey", I believe), but not as much as Saerileth, and Chloe's voice actresses kept disappearing, so half of her SoA stuff isn't even voiced.

Saerileth is a Cavalier. My thoughts are born only from what I've heard about her, but adding new areas for an NPC seems a bit much and prone to bugs. However, I haven't heard many complaints about it, so I can only assume that the coders did their job well. For thoughts from people who have actually played with Saerileth, you can look at her homepage (there's TONS of praise) and/or wait for others to find this topic.
