Just a remix of the old one. After hearing the composer's work in Throne of Bhaal, I expected a better piece than what was presented in Icewind Dale II. Were you too utterly disappointed at the song? Dont get me wrong though, the game music is great.

Sorry, but I'm in a Icewind Dale II-bashing mood today.

    I haven't beat the game yet. :)

Actually, I just wanted to talk about the negative stuff first, then positive. That's just the way I work. It is not a bad game. I was just not as satisfied with it as I thought I would be.

But you haven't answered my questions yet!

[IMG] I liked the music in IWD2 - it was simular to IWD1 but had mainly original elements.

Ans just as a little request - start on the positive stuff before I am forced to destroy you

I believe it was a requirement by BIS that the music should sound similar to the original one, and even use some of the same themes. It is a sequel, after all...

I remember only 3 locations where the IWD2 music is based on IWD1. The main game theme is based on it, but still substantially different, the Kuldahar theme and the music that it plays at the entrance to Dragon's Eye is loosely based on themes that were inside Severed Hand in IWD1. As for the rest, it is fairly unique. What is the problem then?

I like the fact that the opening theme is nostalgically similar. The Targos theme is great, too.

[IMG] Now, I know it's nice for it to be similar, but don't you think it's too similar, on the border line of identical?

Actually, there's no point in discussing this any more. I was just asking if any of you were disappointed by the theme music. I thought the Throne of Bhaal one was way better. The same compoZUR wrote both and I really like the ToB one and hate the IWD one. Well, I think most of you have a different opiion than me. Oh well.

I, too, think that the game music is great. Especially main theme and that horrifying one when I entered Dragon's Eye(?). Ugh, maybe I remembered wrong that one. However, game music is catching the mood.

I was quite disappointed with the music in IWD2. The theme is realy just a copy of IWD1 and the music in the game isn't dynamic - it doesn't change when you enter the combat unlike all other Infinity Eng. games. Plus there are many areas in IWD2 without any music at all.

i do a little test to see which theme is better.

    And the result is...
i can still remember themes from BG2 and NWN, but i cannot remember any IWD2 theme.

After I read this topic yesterday, I paid more attention to game music. Last night, I saved The Shangarne Bridge. The music played while I fought with the enemy was a real good one, I think. It really drives me for more combat. :D
And it immediately fade down when I killed last enemy.

[IMG] Ah, so some people DO think like me.

Nice to know that, although it may be a bad thing. :)

Slightly off-topic, but the NWN theme wasn't that good either, compared to original IWD theme and BG II and ToB theme. BGI was ok, not really exceptional. The IWDII song just didn't have an improved melody; it was a sequence of the old tune.

Maybe that's the way BIS want it to be, as Taluntain wrote.
BTW, while it is still good and impressive, it is old and needs to be renewed.

I felt the music was good, but it did not leave me with a very strong...... impression, for lack of a better word, unlike the first icewind dale music. The music by jeremy soule was beautiful.....

    Jermey Soule is THE Man.

But, I'm guessing he wanted a little too much cash to do IwD2. Which brough Zur up.

It's not just completely terrible. But, none of the songs really catch with me. The Targos one has some merit; and I think the "Boss Battle" one does ok.

I think the story is a little weak as well. I think it was all the references to the Original that threw me off.

To be perfectly honest, at THE very end, where the credits are rolling; that was the best music out of the whole game.

Track 51, off the original Icewind Soundtrack I believe. :)

I particularly adore the battle music at the Pallisade and fighting in Kuldahar against Cedra's forces. Way groovy and cool... (did I just say groovy?!...)

Yea, the original icewind dale kuldahar theme. An excellent track. And I agree that is the best track in the game....

The only other game I knew Jermey Soule composed for was morrowind, and the music there was also superb.
