What's wrong with the romance?

How was it again. I remember hearing something about the romance being put to stop for the duration of your travels in the underdark, but does the same thing apply to Spellhold and the pirate island around it? Or has Imoen Romance mod etc ruined this?

I *know* that I spent quite enough time in the Spellhold after entering to get a comment out of Tashia as I left it. I didn't leave through the portal to the underdark, but took Saemon Haevarian's advice and headed for the surface and his boat. Still, Tashia hasn't said anything besides the normal dialogues she has concerning the Monk as you go in to the Spellhold, and the first Slayer change since I left the mainland.

Is something wrong? Or is it supposed to continue only after I leave the underdark? Do any of you have experience over Imoen Romance mod possibly ruining other romances.. or particularly Tashia Romance having any such problems?

 

Romances are put on hold in chapters 4 and 5 - I think 7 as well.

 

I sure hope you're right. As the Imoen Romance basicly is supposed to go throughout the underdark, it's kind of confusing to say which is working normally and which isn't.

Especially since what with the Imoen Romance bugs I've experienced, the loads of other bugs I've heard of, and the fact that even the Jaheira romance is about unplayable due to the heavy bugs that the developers have left in it (you may say what you want, but I've tried it twice now and both times it's bugged and stopped from advancing). Oh well, I'll soon see I guess.

 

Imoen Romance?!?!?! You like the idea of romancing your sister? If you ask me, whoever made that mod has some really serious issues.

I've heard taalk of a Imoen friendship mod, where you get to know her better, but never romanticly.

Technicly, Imoen isn't your sister. For example, if you play an elf as a protagonist, then there is no way you could at least biologically be of any blood relation to Imoen. And spiritually? Well considering all the different types of Bhaalspawn, I don't think this weighs much either.

All the Bhaalspawn really share is their extraordinary power, and the ultimate destiny of potentially becoming a new god of murder, that's all there is to it. Imoen can of course be considered as a sister, but that's more of a combination of the long childhood that she's spent together with the protagonist, their intimate friendship and yes, the fact that they've both been bred by the same god. Meaning they're "related" to each other socially, not physically.

It's still weird for some, I admit. Maybe I can see things in this way only because I don't have any siblings so I can't relate to that negative type of thinking. Still, even though Imoen doesn't even *nearly* speak all the time as some might suggest, she does bring more life to the story. Though I'm afraid of the bugs this romance seems to have.. And I love the musics. Save one of the most important parts (yes, you who've played this mod know what I'm talking about) where she reveals something secret about her before a big romance event... I just hate that ugly song.

 

I'm just wondering, what bugs are you referring to? I've played through the mod 5 or 6 times and found only 3 bugs. One was fixed a couple days after it was reported, another was fixed hours later, and the latest bug is more an oddity than anything else. I've found the mod fairly bug-free recently, though with all the bugs in BG2, TOB and TDD my standards might not be too high anymore.

Anyways, if you do find bugs in the mod please report them here on the bugs and balancing page. It's been kinda quiet lately so you shouldn't have to wait too long for a response (Lord M is great about that).

Just make sure that you are using the latest version. I'm not trying to be insulting here--I played through the mod for the first time and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting all the dialogues I should have been when I realized I hadn't installed the latest patch.

I have noticed that the standard BG2 romances trigger while in the Underdark with the Imoen Romance installed. I'm not sure if they did so in the latest patch, but I did notice it earlier. I haven't seen any kind of glitches with the other romances though. I don't have Tashia installed, so I can't comment on that. The one thing I do remember is that the Imoen Romance is supposed to be installed after the Tashia Romance, as the Tashia/Imoen interactions are included in the Imoen Mod.

One last thing--I always mute my comp when that music comes up.

Really? I remember reading something about Imoen being compatible with Valen -mod, dialogue-wise. But it was Tashia? I guess I'll have to re-install Imoen Romance then.

Yes I have the latest patch. And yes I counseled Lord M the very second day I had started playing Imoen Mod. I was stuck for over 24h in the Spellhold part where she refused to start her romance dialogue. She did not comment on the fresh air as I left the Spellhold for the surface. And also, I was stuck for a day where I had to leave the underdark as she didn't start her romance dialogue after speaking with Elhan (well she did, with the first try. after that I had to load a mile away and found out that I can't use a recent savegame if I want it to work at all).

Enough said, I battled more than I'm willing with it. It was worth it though, probably more because I learned a lot of bug functions and a lot of new information on Jaheira, than because of the enjoyment of the romance itself. Don't get me wrong here, the romance is real good. Aside from the fact that there's far too much repetitive banter and not anything really important in the dialogues, I really do enjoy it. But I can't rightly play it all the way for the "romance" because there's ToB part for it yet.

 

Hey Forashi how can your character and Imoen not be related? They have the same father.

 

Originally, romances are active in Chapters 4 and 5 on the pirate island, outside spellhold, and within Ust'Natha, nowhere else. Whether or not the way the Imoen romance is set up screws that up or not, I have no idea. I doubt it though, since only her dialogue file would have the changes to the dungeon, not the entire game files.

Try uninstalling and see if it works properly then.
