When to do liches?

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by The Amazing Ooopah, Nov 28, 2000.

  1. [IMG] My party is Level 12, and I would like to get the lich quest thing out of the way before paying Gaelen Bayle. Are they worth doing yet, or should I wait a while?

if you want a technical answer they are "mages that just WILL NOT DIE!" even after death they still use their spells as an undead mage(aka lich) (this is what the book says) the instruction book i mean

Well Kangaxx is a demilich, which is a higher form of a lich (not a weaker, as the name implies). I thought he was the toughest battle in the game because of all the imprisonment spells he cast. I suggest facing him after your advanced many levels, the other liches are not so bad.
If you want to know exactly what a lich is pick up the 2nd edition monster manual (because I don't think it is in the 3rd).

Just a hint about Kangaxx, I found that the freedom spell was a good counter against imprisonment (so long as your main character doesn't get imprisoned.) It doesn't stop the imprisonment from happening, but it brings the NPCs/Creatures back into the fight.

That's what I was screaming! ;) What sucks is when you bring them bacck u have to have someone go talk to them in order for that character to rejoin your party (and that person ends up imprisioned too). One nice thing that I noticed is that when you bring back an NPC, they will attack the demilich eventhough they are not "in your party" and the demilich won't fight back, because they are not in your party. You don't recieve any experience though (which sucks). I eventually beat him the correct way, but it took me awhile.

Hey Elenais Nal'nair, if you summon a bunch of creatures you have at least 5 seconds...

And EternalPaladin, what is the 'correct' way? I was so excited that I vanquished the bastard that I failed to realize I didn't recieve any XP! How do you defend against imprisonment?

Sigh, by the time my cavalier fought any liches, they were too easy. I took a total of 0 damage fighting most of them with one character. Power Word, Kill? Saved. Symbol, Death? Saved. Meteor Swarm? Immune to fire. Gate? Protection from Evil. Kangaxx' Imprisonments? Protection from Magic scroll (cheap, I know ;)).

Ummmm.....well for me the "correct" way was just some dumb luck. After about 12 tries and 10 freedom scrolls with somone willing to sacrifice themselves each round.....

Damn, I did not even think about protection form magic. I can't beleive it worked because you can't save vs. imprisonment

question: what does it take to hit Gaxx. Heard it was a +4 weapon, and if so, does daystar count or for that matter any +extra against evil or undead weapon.

Yea, it takes a +4 weapon or better, but you only do a few points of damage per hit. Unfortunately Daystar will not work.
